We are being told gas prices are higher at the pump b/c of the rising cost in the raw goods? something like that....
Well, if the costs for the refineries to do what they do to this raw material is the same, only the cost for the raw goods has gone up and the gas companies are passing on that expense to the consumer....
how are they making a profit? Such a huge profit at that...
seems to me like someone is gouging the general public and making huge profits in the mean time....
I'm not up to speed on the particulars of how this all works, but something doesnt sit well with me and these HUGE profits the gas companies are making...
does this make sense to anyone else? Or am I off my rocker again?

I love it when the lights go off and someone gets the message that it is all about the Benjamins.
The love of money is the root of all evil!

You are a bit off. The oil companies themselves buy commodities and futures and with the increase the past few years, there has been a large number of these commodities and futures sold at a profit.
Besides, in America, we encourage free market enterprise. No one is demanding that Toyota refund thousands of dollars in profits they made selling sensible cars that Americans wanted.

Free market is one thing, obscene profits are another.
The Love of Money is the "Root" of all evil.
No where do I see God's stamp of approval on Price Gouging.
If free market is so good, where is the Competition?

It's almost that here...$1.77 a few days ago.
You may want to reconsider...it costs me over $100 to fill up right now.

Well, that might not be too bad. The Honda handles so well though.
