Feel Like Gas Prices Are High?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070311/...IA0wl_qV2AsnsA

In Vancouver right now Gas prices are at around $1.12 a liter.
That works out to about $5.04 a gallon.

Here is a site where you can compare gas prices.

Yawn. IN the States we have 50 blends of fuel. Cut that out and eliminate the tax and you have savings able to be used.

Gas here has risen $.55 a gallon in the last month. Why did they tease us with prices below $2 for about three days??

They have bountiful supply in those countries.

-Open ANWR and Florida drilling and eliminate the need for such variety of blends.

-Ease also the restrictions where a new refinery has not been constructed for over 30 yrs.

None of the above will happen.

Gas is reduced as refinerys dwindle stocks of "winter blend" fuel and replace it with oxygenated or ethanol blends for summer use. This is thought to reduce the damage to ozone. It is also required since the additive MTBE is no longer added to gasoline.

Thing is BOOM, for Canada we produce about a Million Barrels of oil more per day then we consume.
We export the remaining million barrels a day to the States.
The only reason our oil is so expensive is that the price of our oil is tied to the world price of oil.

something I found odd....

not too long ago, our local paper had a HUGE headline about some gas company boasting their largest profits in recent history. It went on to say how they surpassed their expected earnings for the quarter/year etc...

here's my question:

We are being told gas prices are higher at the pump b/c of the rising cost in the raw goods? something like that....

Well, if the costs for the refineries to do what they do to this raw material is the same, only the cost for the raw goods has gone up and the gas companies are passing on that expense to the consumer....

how are they making a profit? Such a huge profit at that...

seems to me like someone is gouging the general public and making huge profits in the mean time....

I'm not up to speed on the particulars of how this all works, but something doesnt sit well with me and these HUGE profits the gas companies are making...

does this make sense to anyone else? Or am I off my rocker again?
