What I mean by making yourself available is when you feel him moving on you to give a message in tongues or he moves on you to interpret then do it. Its when we quinch that feeling that he will move onto someone else who will make themselves a vessel for him to flow through.
God never forces us to do anything. As Rhoni said, If we establish a prayer life and try to tune into God its then we actualy feel his spirit moving and are more sensitive to using the gifts of the spirit.
I know the first time I ever interpreted a message in tongues I felt to say a few words and as I said those it just began to come to me.Sometimes it is a bit of a nervous thing because we are human and feel if we say these things and no more comes to us then we will look wrong for doing it.
God never puts us out on a limb nor does he embarrasss us.

The gist is why we need gifts and healing today and if we don't contend for it and stir these manifestations up, we are in deep spiritual trouble.
Please consider the following:
1. In the beginning all Christians believed in praying for healing. Everyone got to play.
2. Then just a few prayed for healing. And healing itself became rare.
3. Next they told stories about how it used to happen when Jesus and the Apostles prayed.
4. Then they wondered if the healing stories in the Gospel weren’t just a wonderful fairy tale invented to make a point.
5. Lastly, they came to a point where they didn’t even believe in the fairy tale any longer. It never really happened in the first place! And that’s where some Christians are today!

I keep typing and deleting. lol There are about 3000 thoughts flying through my mind right now. Wednesday evening has messed with me in a big way http://www.apostolicfriendsforum.com...ad.php?t=10077 and I'm finding myself reevaluating EVERYTHING right now. Ok, that's the understatement in this post.
I can't get any of those thoughts out now. lol
Thanks for posting this, it's giving me a lot more to think about.

God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we're in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. ~Romans 3:24 from The Message

I've heard and believe that spiritual gifts (one or more at diff times) can be manifested from any saint under certain times of need., as the LORD directs an available soul.

I believe this to be true, but I'm not sure why. lol
I do know I've seen people who seem to be used in certain gifts more often than others. Does anyone know why that would be? Is that how things are supposed to be, or is that taking and using a part of the whole more than anything else?

Steadfast said "This post alone shows us the absolute need to get newer converts into serious teachings about the operation of the Spirit, spiritual sensitivity and understanding spiritual gifts. It should be done as soon as their feet find 'sure ground' in the Church.
What a sad situation, Ferd. One that I've seen played out various times.
Thanks for the post..."
So, let's talk about spiritual gifts. What are they? Who's qualified to operate in them and how do you know if you are? How do you know which ones you have? Anyone have some definitions and examples of their operation?
Steadfast, what should new converts be taught? And why do you feel it's so important? I know the story you're referring to is what you were saying here, but are there other reasons in your opinion and what are they?
I've heard and read multiple conflicting opinions about these things (a really long time ago...nothing recently, I've heard *nothing* recently..heh). I've also experienced some...interesting...things. I relate mightily with the guy who ran out of the church in the other thread. I also have a unique twist thrown in. These gifts are mirrored quite nicely in witchcraft, and I practiced them there as well as in the church before I left (a long time ago..lol). At this time I'm trying to sort out Truth from not truth from reality from which side of the coin things fall on.
So...I guess this is a start of a basically directionless thread. lol
Experiences? Stories? Thoughts? Bible studies? Let's have 'em.

Glad to see this discussion of the gifts. We need a lot more of this in the Apostolic church. Too many apostolics are scared of it. It really annoys me sometimes.
A buddy of mine, I remember him telling me that when he became a pastor one day, he wasn't going to allow people to be standing up and prophesying in his church because "a lot of that stuff is just people being in the flesh".
Made me very sad to hear it. Too many pastors spend more time worrying/teaching against false gifts rather than encourage the true manifestations of spiritual gifts.
Its sad to think how many blessings we may have missed out on because of this type of fear and unbelief.

It bothers me when I see people that do not believe in the gifts of the spirit...and as an old soldier I do know the gifts have been abused and people led astray but there still is a REAL...

Wow...that'd just seem very strange. Wouldn't you think if the true gifts were in operation, the false ones would show up pretty obviously?

Precisely!
One of the gifts is " discerning of spirits", which is there to protect the church against things such as false manifestations of gifts in the church.
Ironic, huh? *sigh*
Seems like most of our churches have got the Oneness/Apostolic doctrine part down. Now its time for us to take things to the next level. Just makes you wonder how much longer that will take.
