If the pension was her primary source of income and she needed the health insurance for a health condition she has... and would lose both if she remarried with a civil marriage... would that be more "Christian"?
Biblically speaking... marriage was always a private contract between a couple and their families. It was like this in the United States until states began requiring marriage licenses.
So it can be argued that this couple is marrying in a manner that is not only more biblical... but doesn't place one of the partners under significant financial and medical hardship.
