Wasn't there a story in the last year about a Justice of the Peace in the deep south that was refusing to perform interracial marriages? He thought it was against god's plan.
It's like a Jehovah's Witness Doctor refusing to do blood transfusions. We have no right in the public arena to force our religious beliefs on others. And if it's something that offends our conscience to such an extent that we are unable to perform our job, than perhaps one needs to consider another career.
I can't speak for England (though I read an article that the Church of England will not be blessing Same Sex Marriages), but I do not see this happening in the US anytime soon. IF a gay couple wants to be married in a Christian Setting, there are Affirming Christian Churches, I don't see them forcing you to perform services that you are vehemently against.
