"Taliban", "Communist", "Fascist", etc. are broad brushes, when used TIC, and the first thing that comes to mind is not usually the attrocities and genocides, at least for me. It's the heavy-handed authoritarianism, extreme control, and harsh rules and laws.
"Auschwitz" is much more specific, and can only bring up images of the horrible genocide. It was a poor choice, and NLYP finally admitted this and apologized for it.

Taliban is a fair comparison in my book because of the "moral" legalism they foisted on people.
Nazi's were secular and that was not their focus. Theirs was the evil of believing they were genetically superior and a hatred of Jews. Both resulted in unspeakable atrocities.
The Taliban also engaged in unspeakable atrocities but those aspects of them are not what the comparison was about.

Auschwitz and Communist all bring to mind, for me, the harsh rule of law during that horrible time. I still believe that is what NLYP was conveying.
I don't know anyone that uses the expression "Auschwitz" to reflect the genocide in context when speaking about authoritative situations. JMHO.
IMO, there is no difference in the "Taliban" and "Auschwitz". Both are extreme, oppressively authoritative and involve genocide.
I know sometimes Dan's just asking to be banned... but sometimes I feel that there are some just sittin' round waiting....
I like Dan, but I personally find it funny at how many times he's been banned. By that, I mean, it reminds me of Jim Yohe and his antics and how outspoken he was....LOL!
I've been thinking about a fundraiser.....but I might start it as soon as he's no longer banned.......LOL!

LOL! But no one will tell me WHY he got banned! Makes me think he was right! (there may be some "Communists" or "Fascists" around here.)

Not to me sorry...Auschwitz is a place, not a government. A literal place where some of the worst things imaginable happened. It doesn't express control to me, just perverted, sick, torture, dismembering, experiments, GASSING, murder, starvation, mass graves, killing your own to survive, rape, pedophiles, diseased rotting flesh, the smell of charred remains...no, I don't get the jump to those who want STRICT standards, hardly any entertainment, or modern things, as the same. Yes, to me its GOOFY to ban a wrist watch and that makes no sense to me...but to say that my brother in Christ, who may not even call ME his brother, may loathe me because I like modern things and Movados, is like those who committed these crimes against humanity is shameful AT BEST....

The Nazi reference that comes to mind for me is how "citizens" would inform on each other and stuff like that... and the "Hitler Youth" who were recruited but then encouraged that informing on their friends and families actually made them more patriotic, etc.
But I guess since we are prohibited by political correctness from ever comparing anything to Germany during that time, we aren't allowed to use any of the more obscure references either.
