Re: Let's Get Back to the Cross
Anyone know where Bro. Blume is these days... wondering if he has any more thoughts on the cross. I enjoyed reading through all his stories of the Bible, and pictures of the cross.

Re: Let's Get Back to the Cross
Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Thinking upon these words from Paul. What do we glory in? what do we boast about? As believers, do we really have anything to boast about? We have nothing to boast about. Absolutely nothing. Not good works, good deeds, place of origin, governments, education, you name it, nothing at all.
Our boast is ONLY (ABSOLUTELY ONLY) in the cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ. When we really consider and meditate upon this, we realize that we ARE ABSOLUTELY no better than the vilest of sinners, the meanest of tyrants, the terrorists, the most wicked sinners we can ever think of.
Truly, the only thing we can boast about is the cross of Jesus Christ. The death, burial, resurrection of our Lord and King is our only boast. The cross of Christ reconciled us back to God. Nothing else! We boast ALONE in his death, that he was offered up for our sins and was raised back to life for our justification ( Rom 4:25)
And for further reflection:
Titus 3
1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.
3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

Re: Let's Get Back to the Cross
Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
By the cross, the world is crucified unto believers
The world is dead unto us. The world cannot identify with believers. The principles of the world are different from the principles of the kingdom.
For instance, we see in Phil 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
Esteeming others better than yourself is not compatible with the ideas of the world.
Another example is seen in Rom 12:20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
Feed your enemy? Nah, you have got to be kidding, right? but that's the way of the cross.
So we see that the world is crucified (dead) unto us. We live by the principles of another kingdom ( Col 1:13)

Re: Let's Get Back to the Cross
Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
By the cross, believers are crucified unto the world. Not only did Jesus die, but when we put our faith in Jesus Christ and his atoning work, we died with Christ. We were in his death. That's something to think about!
Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Why does God include us in his death?
Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Our old man is crucified with Jesus. Let's think about that for a second. Our old man was crucified with Christ when he died. God's solution to our sinfulness was not to gradually change us. His solution was to crucify the old man. Thinking about it, that is a radical solution, but that's how God did it. Crucify the old man and start with a new creation.
"That henceforth we should not serve sin." Amen! The old man is crucified, so we no longer have to serve sin. Let's NEVER forget that this crucifixion of the old man happens ONLY at the cross. IOW, a good person by the world's standard is still UNDER the POWER of SIN. But we who have been crucified with Christ ARE NOT under the power of sin (henceforth, we should NOT SERVE SIN). For our old man died with Jesus.
We died with Jesus! ( Rom 6:6) We resurrected with Jesus! ( Col 3:1) These are true statements. We have to come to the realization of these facts to walk in victory above sin.
And based upon the living reality of the crucifixion of the old man, Paul says:
Eph 4
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Col 3
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
So for a believer, the old man HAS BEEN crucified. Now, walk as the new man which is renewed in the knowledge of God.
Sanctification is a finished work in the cross of Jesus Christ. Now, walk in it!!!
Note: I understand I might be stepping on some toes by saying "walk in victory above sin" but that's what the text said "henceforth, we should NOT SERVE SIN"

Re: Let's Get Back to the Cross
Hello, someone wants to talk about the cross? Praise God! Hard to get ministers to do that on the other forum. They seem to only like controversy. lol

Bro. Blume! I was wondering where you were at... I myself took a break from AFF, but have been back on lately. Just read through all your thoughts on the cross, and really enjoyed them.
Controversy is the main thing going here too most of the time, but appreciate any uplifting thoughts you can share, especially on the cross!!
