Southern Cross

Col 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Over the backlands of Brazil, there is the message in the sky hanging as if it were a beacon. It is the majestic Southern Cross. It stands out luminous, clear and radiant speaking its own silent language of He who is the light of the world. I have stood fascinated looking at it and knowing scientists from the entire world, travel just to see its beauty. Stars that are visible to the unaided eye belong to the earth’s home galaxy, the Milky Way, and tend to be very bright or relatively close in this area of Brazil… I think of the words of Ps 19:1The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands. (NIV)

But down below where I have stood absorbed in wonder at the cross in the sky lives a forgotten people in the immense backlands of Brazil. Many of these common people do not even know they live under a wonder in the heavens. Neither do they know the God whose glory shines transcendently bright in the visible heavens. These people know nothing about the true meaning of the cross of Calvary. Real life of the Brazilian backcountry is dangerous and few of God’s massagers have made it there. Sadly right under one of the wonders of the heavens people sit in gross spiritual darkness.

Can you imagine not even knowing of Jesus and living in sight of the Southern Cross?

Tonight 30 people from Paraguay crossed the boarder to Brazil and were in the service of one of our churches. Seventeen of these repented of their sins last night at a house meeting in Paraguay. The national missionary Pastor from our work called me weeping to tell me of God’s working in their mist.

Oh! For more workers of the Cross, for more dedicated men and women that count their life as nothing and leave all to followed Him that leads us into all the world.

While we fuss and fight on forums about this and that millions have never heard the name of Jesus one time. The great apostle Paul said in 1 Cor 15:34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame (KJV)

I wanted to write more but I am weeping…please forgive me…it pains me that so many have never heard the plan of salvation…

Sit where they sit…and weep with me… Sister Alvear

Thank you for being a part of the noblest cause on earth and for helping us to push forward in the many projects we are involved in. The task we face is enormous, the expenses are overwhelming and the burden great but you have helped us on our journey. You are like a fresh glass of water in a hot barren desert to us. Thank you for making our load lighter. I know of nothing more than soul winning that comes closer to the heartbeat of our Lord. I am sure He rejoices in the many phases of our endeavors for Him but I know we get His attention when we have a real burden for lost humanity where ever they live.
Thank you for believing in us and our vision for Brazil

If we all could just love one another and join hands we could reach the world for Jesus. Let me tell you a little about my Sunday school class:

Friday, I watched a little teary eyed as 12 of our young people caught a ride to a small interior city to evangelize not knowing where they would stay what they would eat, really not knowing anything…but knowing they felt a pull towards that city. A few of them were taking pump tents a kerosene lamp. I gave them some bags of instant soup and twenty dollars…and prayed over each one of them. Other than one girl knowing someone in that city no one else knows anyone.
Just last year no one wanted that “horrible” class of young people…I didn’t feel capable when Brother Alvear asked me to teach them but I did because he asked me to. I prayed that God would help me help them and the Lord told me to just love them…so that is what I did…invited them to pop popcorn, bought them cokes and we would sit and talk for hours…then other times we would play games. Then I felt to tell them about our trip to Israel in 2000 and showed them the picture album. They loved it and asked all kinds of questions. We started learning things about Israel and the Jewish people and customs.
From that I felt led to hire a sign language teacher and they have learned several songs in sign language. They will be back for service tomorrow and this happens to be the day they chose to fast and pray…
These kids are heroes! They left so excited and one of them included our youngest son. (22)…
Next month they have another trip planned not to an interior city but to the next state down from us! They are all trying to save money to buy little tents and do this once a month!
What a good problem I have on my hands. Young people that want to be missionaries.
Today some of them called me (collect) to tell me God is moving and they have made contact and people in that area would like to come and visit our church. They seemed so thrilled.

I can't wait to hear their stories tomorrow...

That is so awesome. Both of my girls have been on missions trips. They love it. Tiffany went to Guatemala for a month when she was only 13. Talk about a life-changing experience.

Tabitha went to Mexico for two weeks when she was 15. They both have hearts for God and love children. Tabitha goes to Lee University (Church of God university) and is a communications major but she has recently had a pulling toward ministry. She is in Italy now on an Art History trip, but when she gets home she is going to talk with her advisor and see what she needs to do to add more ministry classes to her schedule.

I am proud of both of my daughters who have turned out to be lovely young ladies, as I love to see people reach our children of the world.

My geography is not real good with the countries down there. How close is Brazil to Venezuela? I have a cousin who is in full time missions there and it is very dangerous where his family lives.

Brazil is much further south than Venezuela...Brazil is at the bottom of South America.

I would love to. I think it would awesome to witness your family's ministry firsthand and share the gospel along side you all.
