Re: Proms and Pentecostals
I voted No.
Letting my children go to the "prom" would to me, be no less than saying to them that it is okay for them to go "clubbing". What a disgusting sickening thought.

I've been "clubbing".... it's nothing like clubbing. But hey, the point is made, you think parents who allow their kids go to supervised school events with music and dancing are essentially letting their kids go "clubbing". That's grounded in reality let me tell ya. lol

Re: Proms and Pentecostals
I get the feeling some parents here wouldn’t let their kids attend the wedding at Cana. lol
As a matter of fact, at that wedding, Jesus turned the water into wine. In those days’ young men as young as 13 years old would have been celebrating iand partaking in the festivities.

That is how it is at Mennonite weddings... everyone gets a "shot" of wine, but there is no boozing it up. We always had homemade wine at home but seldom tasted it. Alcoholism is almost nil among them. I would venture to say it's much greater among groups who teach alcohol is sin.

That makes me think of France, where they also drink wine on a much more casual level. It seems that banning something is a sure-fire way of creating problems with it.

Yep. When you make something "forbidden fruit" human nature kicks in.

Soooo how do you approach the subject of alcohol with your kids? Do you teach them it is a sin?

No. My wife teaches them it is "crazy drink" to which the head of the house adds "...that Jesus made in his first miracle!"
There is cooking wine in the fridge, and I have had communion with wine on more than one occaision, we teach the girls alcohol is a gift from God - but it is often abused by men.
