Even IF it is a made-up parody, they made it fairly realistic as to how the Illuminati controls stuff.
(of course the Illuminati does not openly recognize that there is a genuine Church and that the real Church is against them, of course the ultimate leader of the Illuminati - Satan - (known to them as "Lucifer") does know there is indeed a real Church, even though he has deceived his followers that he himself is the "good guy")
