Re: Really... we're going to spiritualize clothes

Let's not confuse holiness (disposition of spirit), separation (not fellowshiping darkness), and modesty (wearing clothing that reverently clothes and covers the body).

Re: Really... we're going to spiritualize clothes

I am a follower of Christ. I firmly believe that Christians should dress modestly in an immodest lust crazed world. And I am not ashamed of that position.

I believe ladies have to be extra careful because this world's fashion culture is poised to use them to gratify the lust of the eyes if they aren't careful. As men's styles become more provocative, the brothers are going to have to be sensitive to this issue of modesty also.

I don't believe what you wear saves you. Nor do I believe what you wear makes you "holy". But modesty is a very basic Christian principle.

There is a philosophy, if you will, or a way of "Christian living" that is wise. Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Decent post., there IS a way of projecting an opinion without resorting to belittling others for THEIRs., and this is one example; wish there were more.
BUT I also agree that how a person is on the inside will project outwardly in many ways, style of clothing is but one..choice of language being another.,and one that is often abused and not just by the youth either. I am reminded of yet another by the saying "a person is known by the company they keep".
It is the height of arrogance when someone makes fun of anothers comments just because they disagree. Sad indeed.

it doesn't "MAKE" you Holy. It "is" Holy to do such!

Still not adding up... clothing yourself is holy? Keep following the crumbs of this Holy Trail, and you'll find it leading to a heart.

Modestly, yes. But herein lies the debate of the centuries, what is "modest?" Should we insert a blanket response to that?

Otherwise, I agree with what you've said here.

Jeffrey,
Whatever is in your heart will also be a reflection on the outside, i.e., dress and manner/behavior included. It's a no-brainer.

And if a person is having issues and decides to dress Goth, they will need to lay that clothing style aside, when and if, they decide to come clean or it will continue to keep them in that place. Same goes for a prostitute.

Outward apparel is a holiness issue that begins in the heart. Make no mistake it is part and parcel.

My only concern would be criticizing any individual choices or convictions. I don't consider it any of my business what any particular group or person decides what is best for them.

I believe it is a personal and individual choice.
