In what respect? He is a good representative....

At least from what we have seen since Obama was elected. I don’t know much about where he was on spending when GWB was president. I am a bit jaded about sitting Republicans who are now so on fire with holding spending. These same guys were in the majority for a lot of GWB’s term and they spent like democrats. I am not impressed with “Jailhouse religion” and these republican Members of Congress who have “seen the light” remind me of that. Will they go back to spending like democrats if given the reigns of power?

I don’t know if Mike Pence fits that bill, because I don’t know where he stood in those years, or what seniority he had.

Are you asking about the possibility to rise to the national stage? As in running for President?

It is very rare that a member of the house and especially a minority member of the house can rise to national prominence.

Abraham Lincoln was the only president who was a member of the House and had no other major experience.

Interestingly enough the only man to run for president and lose who was only a member of congress was William Jennings Bryan. He lost 3 times!

Many say that Huckabee is getting his name out while, sort of, staying in the shadows a bit. I see Mike Pence doing the same thing. Someone commented that Pence doesn't have executive experience, but I think he is leaning toward a run, at some point.

I don't know about his spending during GWB's term. I'll have to check into that. If it's good, then everything else about him is looking good to me.

Re: Double Meanings?

Not anywhere near all the info that needs to be gathered, but this impressive.

Taxpayer Watchdog Group Names Rep. Mike Pence a "Taxpayer Hero"

Scores 98 Percent on CCAGW`s Congressional Ratings
WASHINGTON--(Business Wire)--
The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) today honored Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) as a Taxpayer Hero for scoring 98 percent on its 2008 Congressional Ratings. The average for the entire House was 35 percent, and the average for the Senate was 38 percent; this makes Rep. Pence`s achievement that much more impressive.

Rep. Pence has been a principled advocate of lower taxes and a
smaller government since arriving in Washington.
Rep. Pence received a
score of 98 percent in the Council for Citizens Against Government
Waste 2007 Congressional Ratings, earning the rank of Taxpayer Hero.

"This score proves Rep. Pence looks out for taxpayers and future
generations by finding ways to cut out-of-control Washington spending
and eradicate wasteful programs," declared Schatz.

Thus, far, he's still looking good to me.

Looooong shot at the very least. Americans like high profile experience.

and if the Republicans win in 2012 it will be a very hard rejection of Barak Obama and everythign about him.

Among the things that will be part of the Obama problem will be a lack of experience. The next guy is giong to have to have it in spades.

That puts Pence at a disadvantage. He might however be a very attractive VP which would give him a leg up in 2020. (can you believe we are talking about 2020?)

Pence is at best a long shot.

Huck will be on the short list in 2012 that is for sure. His Foxnews show is making the case that he is a common sense conservative who sticks to his guns but isnt rabid.

Re: Double Meanings?

i wouldnt be so quick to back a member of congress. unless it was a speaker of the house. and newt is the only one on that list and as much as I think he is the smartest guy in the room, I dont think he can win.

Not supporting Newt anymore.! Not after his sorry party alignment in NY!

At least Pawlenty had the moxy to support Hoffman.

Well, I've been watching Mike Pence for a couple of years and I can see he is positioning himself. Anyway, he did support Amnesty under Bush, which some saw as a Benedict Arnold thing.

He has voted against numerous earmarks.

Don't know how I feel about earmarks. Ron Paul was saying the infrastructure part of that is important, if I am remembering right. In other words, he was saying that not ALL earmarks are a bad thing.

Yea, Kevin McCullough at townhall was saying the exact same thing. He's pushing for Huckabee. My husband and I don't exactly care for Huckabee.

Can Huckabee get in supporting the FairTax? Lots of questions still need answering and many people are still confused about how it will work and how we can keep the percentage down once it's implemented.
