I have a very fond affection for the move of God's Spirit that I have experienced in the UPC, the people God placed in my life to teach me how to pray, and the people that taught me to persevere under hardship. They were all elders.
Other than that, it's a preacher's union and I don't have fond affection for that. LOL!
I've talked about this experience I had, during a particular prayer time, concerning TT's book, "The God Chasers". Nothing against the author. I don't know him personally.
Someone recommended the book, for motivation and encouragement, to go deeper with God and so I was interested. It was very motivating. Halfway through the book, I was home alone and in the spirit of prayer. I spoke to God that what I had was not enough, I needed more. He stopped that prayer as cold as brass and spoke to me, "You cannot get ahead of where I am leading you." I closed the book and never finished it. Some books may be motivational and encouraging, but we must remember that God directs our path.

That worthless piece of literature has messed up SO many people. 100% heresy. WE are chasing God??? He's hiding from us? I can DO more and GET MORE of God??? Ridiculous!!!
The book is "works" in overdrive.
Loren Yadon wrote an EXCELLENT critique of the book. I couldn't find it online but I have it in printed form. If anyone is doing the chasing, it's God. In the book, Tommy compares our relationship with God to "Hide-and-go-seek". Complete absurdity. No "Christian" book has ever made me angrier.

I don't remember anything I read in TT's book. Just that it was motivational. But, I learned a valuable lesson and cannot regret that. I have been very careful to purchase or read any additional books since that time.
I remember, as a new convert, I was in my pastor's office and noticed a book called, "Customs and Manners in Bible Lands." I kept seeing that book stand out in my mind. A few days later, I was driving to lunch and the Lord impressed me to purchase the book. I can go on that kind of recommendation. LOL! It's very informative and helps you understand, of course, customs and manners in order to further understand the background of some of the scriptures written. That book was and is invaluable to me.

I think I've read it several years ago but I don't remember.
I guess it didn't make much of an impression positive or negative.
When I first heard of the term "God chaser" it kinda bothered me. In my mind I pictured these folks that follow preachers and conferences around to have certain "stars" lay hands on them and in the fond hope of getting some "word" from God. I personally think we are to grow slowly in the Lord by prayer, fasting, Bible reading, etc. with a "support group" of a local church or small group.

Re: One liners you remember from Ministers
Not really a "one liner" I guess, but I know a preacher who ends every sentence he speaks from the pullpit with "HallelujahJesus". "Greetings everyone, and welcome to our servivce, HallelujahJesus. For my text tonight, HallelujahJesus... I'll be reading from the 29th Chapter of Acts, HallelujahJesus." ........ And, as I conclude, HallelujahJesus...."
Most irritating and distracting thing I've heard from the pulpit. Preachers, keep the oneliners comin'... but please...lay off the catch phrases!

Re: One liners you remember from Ministers
How about these:
"When I tell you I'm almost done--it means absolutely nothing."
"Don't look at me in that tone of voice."
(while writing on the whiteboard) "Please excuse my handwriting...I write in tongues."

As a non-tongue-talker, I'm amazed how people can flippantly joke about tongues.
