I went by to see him yesterday. He looked smaller than he had, but the nurse had just been by the house and said that he had gained 6 ounces and 1/4 inches. He didn't look like it to me!!!
He is supposed to have gained back to his birth weight within two weeks and he hasn't.
Someone make me feel better today!!!
PO, preemies are not like full term babies. There are a lot of things going on with a preemie (internal developmental) that should take place before a baby is born. In utero, the baby is being supplied all its energy from the mother. Once born, the baby has to use energy that would normally be used for growth, to get all that developmental stuff done.
The fact that he is not in the NICU is awesome and is the thing you need to focus on. That means he is really doing great! It will be a slower start than full term babies, but he will catch up. Levi was like that early on. But he was walking at 10 months and offered his first defiant word on his first birthday!
We get caught up in looking at how “big” the baby is when we should be focused on the “curve of growth” and hitting developmental milestones. Those are vastly more important.

Thank you, Ferd! I am crying now! I don't know why I can't get a hold of myself. I know everything is going to be fine and I still keep crying! He looked so small yesterday!
My oldest sister told me to go over there, hold him and let my daughter get some sleep! LOL! Her husband goes back to work on Saturday. He's been home this whole time and I am so thankful for that. I'll probably be more of a help to her next week.
On the pacifier thing. especially for preemies, they are good to help them with sucking reflex. And sucking helps with pain relief. Babies all get gas pains of some kind and being born causes all kinds of new stimulation that processes like pain to them until they learn it is just the natural world.
HOWEVER Tooth Nazi (aka Mrs. Ferd) says after 6 months they do more harm than good. So TAKE IT AWAY.

Thank you again, I feel better!!!!
You are welcome. Preemies look sooooo small. I could hold both my boys in one hand. Jack is still really little. 26 lbs at 2 years and 2 months. but he is on track on the curve and developmentally (except for talking and that is all about stubborness)

Thank you, Dr. Ferd! LOL! She said he doesn't really care for a pacifier, so I told her not to encourage it. He makes noises all the time. She said he is grunting. I think he sounds like a puppy. And he stretches his arms out and yawns!
The nurse came by yesterday and told her that his joints feel more stiff then normal and she needs to bicycle his legs so that they won't have problems later. Did you have to do that?

He is so small and wrinkly! I'm afraid to hold him! LOL! But, he is bigger than being in your hand. I can imagine what you and your wife went through! We are going through nothing like you have and it's still miserable!

I have learned that what each of us are going thru is traumatic in itself. As much as we have dealt with, we have found sooooo many who have gone thru so much more....
know that we are praying for you and your daughter and your little guy.... dads are on their own! LOL! (not really)

Praying for all of you. Praying for His peace to fill your hearts and his presence to comfort you.

Thanks, Renda!!!!!! So, at his 38 week mark, that is normal!!! I knew I was worrying about nothing, but after seeing him yesterday, I couldn't reign it in! I cried all the way home! My husband could tell I had been crying, but he didn't say anything. LOL!
That's how I would see it.....he's a healthy boy! Also, I think babies are a bit swollen after birth, so that makes a difference too.
