My problem was not with Black Gospel OR the Hawkins - yes, there are MANY of their songs that I like and remember. My problem with the original post was with the Oprah thing. I have a major problem with her.

IMHO - nobody could sing "Goin' Up Yonder" quite like Marietta Wolfe!

Okay - checked your b-day and you are only two years older than me!

I wasn't even paying any attention to the Oprah thing - - just the singing. Well, I did make note of her hat.

Barb, I decided not to go. It turned into total chaos.
The Hawkins couldn't find a place big enough to hold it.
The places that were big enough were booked.
The Oracle arena wouldn't rent the indoor coliseum because the Oakland As were playing and they wont rent it out when they're playing due to parking.

People were lined up for blocks trying to get in. they slept in sleeping bags, tents over night. Police were everywhere. It was a mess.

Like you said, the tribute will be re-broadcast this weekend (also on BET).

AND!!! The funeral will be webcast live today at 11AM!!!!
