Some will continue to fear to question or challenge those in religious power, especially when they are told NOT to question the man of God, for that is up to God to straighten him out.....and then sometimes even bring up OT fear tactics. But there are also some like were the bereans, searching for bible truth, and that are no longer satisfied with just doing it out of fear & because the man of God said so, or parents trained you to, not knowing why, but because you just don't question the man of God....

receiving handouts at church like this, are even a more real eye opener atleast to me, not only paying current "tithes owed", but back paying tithes as in #3

That said, concerning the POOR(& widows), I also reget that POOR people in many, (but not all) churches nowadays, while very much struggling to get by and support their families, are REQUIRED PAYING at minimum 10% of their income (wherever it goes at their assembly), to "escape" a curse from God, & instead have windows of heavens blessings poured out, be a member of the church, or participate in any ministry. Then are pressured that it is only considered GIVING, when it is above and beyond the minimal 10% of personal income required to be blessed and escape a curse. Yet in the OT, the Poor were on the RECEIVING end of tithes. And now, the POOR are free from the OT law?? Somethin seems a little backards here... ..Not too many preachin a tithe FOR the poor

Shag, I have seen similar documents. I find these "pledges" troubling on many levels. Notice the pledge assumes a whole lot...

I have some family who have stated to me they would like to leave the Old Order Mennonite church (think Amish) but they never will because of "the promise I made to the church". While I admire their honestly, I have a bit of disdain for systems that manipulate others and use the cover of the church and God as a power tool.

Give to those in need. Give to worthy causes - including the local church body - but please don't sign a pledge that is intended as a baton of guilt should you fumble the ball in a game of made up rules.

At the very least one should have an attorney and a financial adviser read such a document before signing it. They should be able to tell whether the myriad of numbers being elicited are even feasible given your income and salary...

...unless, of course, we enter into these pledges with God haphazardly and with less forethought than those we make with our fellow man....

As for AMF, I didn't bring my pom poms to the party, and I left my amen'ing megaphone at home, so I think I will be much more comfortable over here on AFF anyhow, but still welcome any rebuttals to my posistions.

Did they add tithing to the rules at AMF ... that's odd since the likes of Burke and EB go unscathed for preaching, teaching and debating FULL PRETERISM.

On things being expected of pastors ... just that pastors are held to a higher standard because of the office/position they hold. They have no greater priviledges, just more responsibilities. It's a thankless job, to be sure. When one presents himself as a pastor, people assume he will act/not act a certain way. OP blowing up and calling Jason a liar is not how one would expect or hope a pastor would act. Jason was completely wrong and out of line by starting a thread claiming to be banned when he wasn't yet and complaining about another forum and the members of the forum.

You're right. OP degraded his office by jumping out and calling Jason a liar. Whether Jason lied or not, it wasn't right to call him a liar in a public thread.
