I fear that the emergent church is just another label for the charismatic.
I think we as an organization ( UPC) is undergoing a real time of change- and many of the man made foundations are crumbling. I just hope that the change that is brought about by men and women that are God centered, God directed, and Spirit led. As a church we do need to refocus our purpose on bringing the Gospel to the lost- That should be our primary purpose- Can you honestly say that is the primary purpose of the church you attend?

good thoughts.
what do you mean by "charismatic"? doesn't that word mean "full of spirit"?
If the UPCI is undergoing some change....then I hope they stop looking to men...and start looking to God. If they look to men then they will be right back in the same mess in just a few years.

I'm not sure how emergent this upci church really just because they are dressing down putting down some of the standards I would more on the chraismatic side because a lot of the chrasmatic churches have ralaxed dress codes. Also check out youtube there are a lot ofpastors from different denominations that has come out against this movement and what it teaches.

That's just it! It's NOT about getting more people in the doors, and it's NOT about keeping them there. It needs to be about getting out of our reclusive "holy" buildings, onto the streets where people are, and ministering to them where they are. That's the change that needs to take place! Not changing doctrine, but changing how we view ourselves and how we view our purpose in the earth.

That's what I thought. So, the title of this thread/topic is a misnomer. We're not really talking about the "Emerging Church" movement per se, but more what some have termed a "relevancy movement" within the ranks of oneness pentecostalism. And someone, somewhere along the line has seen the relaxing of some of the dress standards and labeled the movement charismatic (read: backslidden), then attached the "emergent" label to it. Sounds like an attempt to discredit through prejudicial nomenclature.
FTR: I would stand against an "emerging church" movement as defined by Wikipedia and other sources as well. These sources make it sound more humanistic. Our focus still needs to be on God's Word and the leading of His Spirit.
Stepping down off my soap box now.

Actually I wouldn't make that comparsion. Did you know that the chrasmatic movement has even come against the emerging church movement.

Given the definition of the emerging church movement as found on Wikipedia and other sites, I would too. But that's not what this thread/topic is about. The label has been misapplied in this case. I see this as more of a "relevancy" movement, or a grass roots movement to return to the basics without all the rigid and inflexible institutionalism.
