Frankly, the longer I live, the more profound the old words from the Charlie Daniels Band become:
Jesus walked on the water, and I know that it's true,
But sometimes I think that preacher-man would like to do a little walkin' too ...

Wouldn't be nothing wrong with walk'n on the water, but trying exalt yourself to Lord is a bad mistake that could cost eternity.

You're right, I've never been in your shoes. Maybe as a new Christian I would have done what you did if I had the pastor you did. My first pastor NEVER preached outward holiness standards. He lived what he believed and didn't force his convictions on others.

No problem here Trovere...I have forgiven all involved, really, I never harbored any ill will towards any.
The members that shunned us, after we left for another upc, were just ignorantly following the teachings of a paranoid, master of the fear tactic, pastor.
I am glad I am free from such religeous bondage, Have I learned a lesson ? Undoubtedly !
It's just sad that saints have to endure situations like the ones described on this thread, to learn those lessons.

So typical WH, That was one of the most misquoted scriptures in the church I made reference to.
God's children are annointed, we are all God's annointed, not just preachers. I fear some of these pastors discussed here will be called up short for "touching God's annointed"
