Submission is one thing and stupidity is another. Good Lord, why would anyone want so much control over other people's lives? The person who does this may be very insecure and afraid of losses. We owe our pastor honor and respect but this is way over the edge, STS. How are you now STS? What kind of church do you attend? I haven't read the whole thread.

Thank you for asking,....I am doing very well finally...it has taken me about 3 years to get to a point of healing from the wounds...for they were very deep and painful...but I did gain some wonderful friends and I did meet God through the church...but I am very glad I am free from it....we are not in a church yet...we have tried a couple, but still searching...its been a long process!

Welllll...I know what its like to attend a church with overbearing leadership...(although ours wasn't as bad as what you listed, STS.) My nagging question is:

WHY did you go back??????

It's no joke JM. I have seen it and lived thru it, in both upc and amf churchs

I am ashamed that I spent twenty years under this bondage.

I thank God that I am free at last.

I am going to move on to some other threads now. Talking about this old garbage is not amusing to me.

Opens old wounds that I don't want to be scratching.

Peace to all and my prayers for all, that you find healing from the wounds inflicted upon you.

STS, I was in a similar church for quite a few years, although your set of rules even seem more stringent than mine were. Everything was regulated about women's clothing, hair, places to visit, etc. I guess I just didn't want to think for myself at the time. I still consider myself conservative, but not ultra conservative.

I went back to be sure I had not made a terrible mistake...I was hoping against hope that things had changed, I had heard there were many changes...but it was not true....the oppression and control, the constant fear preaching...RULES....RULES!

Thankfully I am not bitter against God if anything I love Him even more!
