also, Did you let of ALL rules and standards? if so, was it a result of these silly rules ?

I think when you see situations like this, in all honesty, not to bash anyone, but you are dealing with people who have borderline or full-fledged personality disorders. They are people with aggressive, dictator type tendencies, and a lot of it is rooted in inferiority complexes and fear. (if they lose complete control, they lose everything)

At the NAYC this year, there was a girl I know dancing in the front during the preaching (or something to that effect) and the preacher pointed at her and said, This girl has holiness! And proceeded to tell her that she shouldn't allow people to change her and such.

This girl had on the usual attire and her hair was up. What he didn't know what that her hair was cut and she wore makeup and pants outside of church! He merely judged her on her appearance and saw her as 'holy'.

Just my opinion, but I know it has to be true in some cases. Not all, I realize that not all of the ones who pull stuff like this have a mental illness, but I think there are some out there who do have real mental health issues.

Yes it does, but what can you do about it? You did all you can do. Some people I've found like to be told what to do...

I have a friend whose preacher preaches against perms but allows them to use hot roller, hot sticks, curling irons, etc. My friend said she tried to talk to him about how it was the same thing but he thought that women used perms to burn their hair so they didn't have to cut it. She said women in her church still get perms even though he is opposed to it. Guess that comes down to be in obedience or disobedient.
