Watching Old Videos
Last night I watched this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=yxNheM-1M-0
It brought back many memories. It also built up my spirit. I have to confess; I long for those days again. When I sat in this very service it moved me. It shaped me. I realize that messages like this pushed me to never give up.
Now that I am old I reflect on these things. I long for the simplicity of those days. When I was young it seemed so easy to live for God. Today there are so many things going on around me. So many things pull at me; the job, bills, the car needs an oil change...
Jeff kept saying again and again that he was not going to give up. If there is no test then there is no testimony. It is true. I am rambling. I just long for those days.

Re: Watching Old Videos
I find a lot of sermons inspirational So far none by JA. I much preferred him when he was a young man doing magic tricks to illustrate christian principles and stories.
The crude "street talk" was a neat hook when he was a young evangelist but then when he was still using that 10, 15, 20 and now 40 years later it was just weird.
I don't think he is a bad man and in fact have longtime friends who go to his church and think the world of him. Just not my cup of tea.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Excuse me, but when does JA use crude street talk?

Re: Watching Old Videos
CC1, I understand the issue with JA; however, if you have not heard or watched "Refuge From Despair," I highly recommend doing so. It's the best message on grace I've ever heard in the UPC.
Incredible message.

If you don't think JA is crude in his manner of speaking then I just don't know what to say. He has been every time I have heard him over the past 41 years I have heard him preach.

Sister B winces when she hears preachers "try" to pronounce Greek. She learned to handle bad grammar over the pulpit, including my own. Is that what you mean? Because ever since you were knee high to a palmetto bug every preacher you ever heard (except Brother Stoneking and a few others) butcher the King's English.

You don't look that old, in fact you dress like a young lady.

You should listen to it. He criticizes the UPC in all the right places, and we know that is your cup of tea.
