Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

The Carl Ballestero autobiography came in today. Only a slight reference to Harry Morse. But it does describe the ministry of MR Tatman. This is good news.

It also describes the merger issues and describes the theological landscape of 1940's central California. There are also a few other references to other men I am writing about, including Missionary Resnicsek. A picture of the home of Selma Nelson is also inlcluded, even though she is not described.

Currently, I am creating a name index for the book and then giving it a careful read. The down south material is of no concern to me.

Apparently, the 1945 merger was no picnic.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

Index complete. Highlights are a colorful description of MR Tatman and the basement sanctuary of the Harry Morse mission. There is a nice pic of the mission ran by Selma Nelson in Fresno. But, frustrating, no mention of Selma Nelson herself.

Ballestero does describe the theological atmosphere of the Western District during the 1940s. He also mentions a few decisions made by Ewart that are puzzling.

Looks like there were only 3 churches in PAJC Washington. Ballestero looks down on the PCI. He does mention pastors of churches I was not aware of. This is great.

Interesting book.

Interesting book.
Elder Ballestero’s Pastor Elder Jimmie Davis didn’t have warm and fuzzy feelings toward the PCI.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

No, none of this group did. But understanding their disapproval is important for me to understand.

Ballestero had no criticism of Harry Morse or MR Tatman. But, he did not mention his critics by name. I wish he would have, for research reasons.

There were some real tensions about the 1945 merger. Ballestero highlights some of them.

I'll post a few quotes later. This is all "new information" for me.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

Evangelist Charles S. Price preached a revival in Fresno...

It was his custom to announce one or two evenings each week to b set aside to pray for the sick. This was the practice of most of the evangelists in the earlier times of Pentecostal revivals.

Is this true ??

Andrew Clark Baker pastored in Oregon City, Oregon in the 1940's. Looks like he was PA of JC. I need to find out more about him. I don't think he was in the social circle of Harry Morse.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

Aimee McPherson and her profound influence on Pentecostalism are covered by Ballestero. It is a subject not covered by other Oneness writers. Very interesting. McPherson was deemed very important to both Ballestero and Morse.
