Any Boa Owners?
Meet, Sadie. She's our new addition. She's a young boa who is approximately 18 inches long. Her temperament is sweet, her colors beautiful, and she is far more affectionate and interactive than other reptiles I've owned.
Although I've owned reptiles before, she's my first boa constrictor. I tried to feed her last night, but she didn't seem interested. Several factors might be in play. I'm thinking that she might not be hungry because she was a little pig last week. Apparently, she was fed three (yes three) mice last Wednesday before I brought her home. Frankly, I wouldn't have fed her that much. I don't think the pet store really knows what they're doing at times. But being in a new environment might also effect her appetite. And I know temperature and humidity can be a factor, and if she's too cold she won't have an appetite. So far, the conditions in her cage are 91 degrees on the hot side and 82 degrees on the cool side, so I'm thinking her temp is okay. Humidity is at about 53%. I know it could be a little more, but I'm thinking this should be okay for now. If she doesn't indicate a desire to be fed by Monday, I'm going to try to feed her again on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
Are any of you proud boa owners? I have a few questions. I've been doing research, but I like to hear personal stories and experiences too. Here are a few questions I have...
Should I be overly concerned about her ignoring her food this week?
I have branches in her terrarium that she appears to enjoy climbing on. The pet store recommended them because she's young, but I know boas are terrestrial snakes. Should I remove these? If the pet store is right about her enjoying them because she's "young", when should I remove them?
Any general tips, suggestions, words of wisdom, or experiences you'd like to share regarding your boas?
Here area few pictures of my new baby. She was up and exploring her terrarium early this morning.
