Re: Who was Harry Morse ?
Scott, Darrell Frost, on Facebook, is John Berg's grandson. You might contact him.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?
Progress was made today via email from the Berg family. Their kindness is appreciated.
Selma Nelson, the pastor of the Fresno Peniel Mission, has relatives that I am in contact with. There is still a lack of data about her. I really need to travel to Fresno.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?
The temperance movement had it's fair share of female leadership. This was also seen in the Peniel Mission movement, where the majority of missions were ran by women.
I wonder if the large numbers of women preachers in early Pentecost were also an expression of the influence of the temperance movement ?

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?
Temperate in all things.
You are funny !!
Morse and others, I did not measure how many, were mission workers prior to Azusa Street. Those missions grew out of the temperance movement. So did the "Social purity" doctrine.
How do I measure the number of social workers that became Pentecostal ? I might be able to compare the Peniel names to the mailing address of the Apostolic Faith Mission mailing address. If I ever get my hands on a early PCI ministerial directory for California, I could compare those names.
Yes, I am thinking out loud.

The social purity doctrine was strong in my part of the country in my Dad's generation. William Sowders taught that as part of overcoming to reach perfection to be in the Bride. Caused a lot of failures among young men and women during that era. It was dying out when I was a young boy.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?
Very interesting. I am having trouble finding data about it.
Thanks for the input.

Sowders taught the forbidden fruit in the garden was sex. The 144,000 who Sowders taught were the Bride were virgins. Thus the Bride was to be perfect and to be perfect you had to not only not have sex but overcome sexual desire. I doubt if anyone in that group teaches that today and probably will get amnesia if you ask them about it?

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?
Many of Harry's ministerial friends were lifelong unmarried people. Interesting stuff.
