This was Rita Campbell Dawson her grandfather had the church in Weedpatch spoken of in Stinebeck's book the Grapes of Wrath. Her husband Darrell was pastor.

Marling was divorced. The last I know of her was 1964. She was in the UPC from 1945 until 1964. I just learned of her and her mission this morning. It was called Pentecostal Mission. Later, it was called the True Gospel Church.
I'm still gathering data about her. Any leads ??

Hi Scott...I have been watching this thread for awhile and was going to suggest you look into Harriet Marling but it looks like you're already on it. You might get in touch with the current pastor of the Bend UPC, Steve Johnson. They are still meeting in the same building where Sister Marling pastored last I knew. He has pastored that church for decades. If I remember correctly, for many years, Sister Marling's children owned the building and are still in the Bend area.
You might also contact Rev. Nathanael Neff in Baker City, Oregon who grew up in Bend although his family later got crosswise with Sister Marling and started another church across town there in Bend. His aunt, Sister Craig is still living last I heard and would know a great deal about Harriet Marling as well. Two other contacts to consider are Rev. Michael Fennell who pastors in North Dakota. His father assisted Sister Marling in her twilight years. Pastor Gale Scott who pastors somewhere in Connecticut pastored Sister Marling's church for several years after her death.

Outstanding !!
Steve Johnson is a great help. I will contact the others. I still need a picture of her. I still do not know how she knew Morse.
Thanks.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?
I took a week off of work to go trout fishing. We have a trout stream in our backyard and there are several others not too far from our house. It is a Wisconsin thing.
As it turns out, the mosquitoes decided to hatch the same week I took of from work. After seeing them fly off with yet another holstein, I decided to go inside and do something safe.
So I read the charming biography penned by Olive Haney about her husband.
Olive Faith Haney was one of my instructors at Christian Life College. It was she who called me in her office to encourage me to focus on New Testament literature. Fro some reason, she was impressed that I had a perfect score on my final exam in her NT survey class.
I took her advice, and under the direction of Dan Segraves and Mary Lou Myrick, I ended up graduating with a fair understanding of the New Testament.
Kenneth Haney always had time for a no name student from a tiny church. Even when I called him the last year he lived, he took time to chat with me in his own graceful style.
The last time I saw Olive Haney was at an alumni dinner in 2001. We sat at the same table. She had a sharp mind even at her advanced age.
The evening would have been more productive had I known I would be writing this book.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?
Harry Morse moved to Oakland and founded the Pentecostal Mission in 1915. His Bible College began at the same time.
That was 2 years after The "revelation".
Did Harry start the first Oneness Bible College ??

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?
I interviewed a person who described Harry Morse as a great debater. Especially with trinitarians.
Then the day came when he lost a debate and became trinitarian.
Is any of this true ????
The rest of the interview was fantastic. More details, but not always the ones I am looking for. Once the memories start, one never knows where they will take you.
The nice person was quite pleased to share old memories.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?
I just found a autobiographical article penned by Morse from 1901. Included is a drawing of Harry and Maude.
It is the only autobiographical material I ever read by Morse. It covers an area of his life I had very little data about.
I am very excited !!!!!!
Back in the day, Harry was a "Captain" in the Volunteers of America. He ministered in San Jose and Stockton. This was in the years prior to 1906.
Slowly, it is all coming together.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?
Carrie Judd Montgomery was lived in Oakland. She visited the Apostolic Faith Mission and became a Pentecostal. She had a weekly prayer healing service in Oakland.
I wonder if she knew Harry Morse ?? I have not found documentation proving they did.
Emma Cotton was at Azusa Street and had a mission in Oakland.
Frank Bartleman stayed at the house Montgomery ran in Oakland.
He knew Morse.
I have yet to put them all together. But I'm working on it.
