I know what the NYT said. I live a couple hundred miles away from Iraq. I'm apparently in a bubble and not in the know and on the inside like you are. I just read what some State Department appointee in charge of the construction said in his book, but you and your sources at the NYT appear to know more than him.
So, for all of us dense grunts, why don't you cobble up a list of those hospitals and their locations general.
Share the goodwill of America with us. Make us proud general. Go ahead.
If you can't then let me weigh this out:
1. Should I go with the NYT?
2. Should I go with We Meant Well: How I Helped Lose the Battle for the Hearts and Minds of the Iraqi People (American Empire Project) by Peter Van Buren
Lemme think.
One diplomat's darkly humorous and ultimately scathing assault on just about everything the military and the State Department have done -- or tried to do -- since the invasion of Iraq. The title says it all." (Steven Myers, New York Times)
That the same NYT you are floating that article from? That seems funny.
Peter Van Buren has served with the Foreign Service for over 23 years. He received a Meritorious Honor Award for assistance to Americans following the Hanshin earthquake in Kobe, a Superior Honor Award for helping an American rape victim in Japan, and another award for work in the tsunami relief efforts in Thailand. Previous assignments include Taiwan, Japan, Korea, the UK and Hong Kong. He volunteered for Iraq service and was assigned to ePRT duty 2009-10. His tour extended past the withdrawal of the last combat troops. Van Buren worked extensively with the military while overseeing evacuation planning in Japan and Korea. This experience included multiple field exercises, plus civil-military work in Seoul, Tokyo, Hawaii, and Sydney with allies from the UK, Australia, and elsewhere. The Marine Corps selected Van Buren to travel to Camp Lejeune in 2006 to participate in a field exercise that included simulated Iraqi conditions. Van Buren spent a year on the Hill in the Department of State’s Congressional Liaison Office. Van Buren speaks Japanese, Chinese Mandarin, and some Korean (the book’s all in English, don’t worry). Born in New York City, he lives in Virginia with his spouse, two daughters, and a docile Rottweiler.
I believe I'll go with #2 general. There are enough articles on wasted money on blown projects in Iraq to fill 10,000 pages, articles on things that were planned and paid for, but very little information on anything that was actually BUILT.
Wanna play Double Jeopardy and guess the actual number? Sent you a hint a few posts back. It ain't even on the radar screen of "thousands". It ain't even "hundreds". What say you?

ok well let's be clear that the NYT article is really all one needs to understand the boondoggle; just read it--it is straight condemnation of our "efferts" there, surprisingly.

Thr Fruit of Afghanistan
"Afghan opium cultivation has reached a record level, with more than 200,000 hectares planted with the poppy for the first time, the United Nations says.
The UNODC report said the harvest was 36% up on last year, and if fully realised would outstrip global demand.
Most of the rise was in Helmand province, where British troops are preparing to withdraw.
One of the main reasons the UK sent troops to Helmand was to cut opium production."

Hey zeep i was watching Fox awhile ago. They attribute crashing a plane full of passengers by a white guy to poor mental health screening. No wonder all the white conservatives watch Fox right?
He's not a terrorist. He's a mass murderer. White privilage is a good thing!

Was he also a victim of a deficient mental health system? It's Obama's fault. He made healthcare less affordable. Impeach! Impeach! White mass murder is because of obamacare and obama.
