I don't expect in answer to this next question and I mean this with all due respect because I know you mean the best for the kingdom of God with your stance against beards. I've heard it preached before that sometimes we have to be willing to leave our comfort zones in order to see a great move of God. I've heard that very message preached in some of the most conservative churches I've attended. Could that message apply to your uncomfortableness with beards?

Many years ago, an evangelist stayed in my parents home and told me of a series of services he was supposed to preach for a minister before coming to the church my father pastored. He said he got off the plane, was greeted by the pastor and then told he would not be able to preach after all, because he was wearing a wedding ring. The evangelist offered to remove it while he was there, and the pastor told him it wouldn't matter, he wasn't going to allow someone wearing a wedding ring to preach in his church. So the evangelist was left at the airport on his own.

Ridiculousness.

I don't believe the pastor handled that right. But if he really believed the bible was against jewelry then i can understand not allowing the man to preach at his church. He likely shouldn't have just left him at the airport though.

You would think he'd vet the evangelist before having him come preach.

At one point many years ago, long before I got married, I debated whether or not I'd wear a ring. At that time, I wanted to evangelize and wanted to make sure there wouldn't be any issues.

Years passed, I got married and I'm wearing a cheap, simple, silver wedding band. If anyone thinks I'm going to hell over it...whatever.

The pastor should have found out the man's stance in advance. He should not have left him at the airport.

I do not use preacher who wear rings or if their wife wears rings. But I find all this out in advance. We should know those who labor among us.

But again I feel it was wrong to leave a man stranded at the airport like that.

When things happen as ndavid described, I see it as that Pharisaical spirit. They are looking down on the "sinner" & elevating themselves to be better somehow - and not doing one thing to help the individual they view as lacking & in error.

The cause of disunity between the Ultra Conservatives and everyone else isn't solely the UC's fault. Mutual respect is a two way street and the more liberal leaning members often give the UC members less respect than the UC members give back to them.
