I don't necessarily prefer a duopoly, but in order to have a third party, one party is going to suffer and while the other is helped. In this election cycle a third party would help the Dems and hurt the GOP. So, I'm opposed to a third party this time around. It won't help remove Obama.

Not true. I already posted stats on that.

Here, I will post it again.

I thought the following might be of interest to counter the Romney claims that it is more important to vote for him than it is to vote for your principles, or your interests. But, about this business of how Virgil Goode is “going to cost” Romney the election...the numbers do not add up to the Romney people's claims.

Tracking Rasmussen, in five sequential polls in Virginia each approximately a month apart:

June 6, 2012, Rasmussen had a tie in Virginia [Romney 47% Obama 47%.] In that “Other” candidate had 3%, with 3% undecided.

A month later, July 17, 2012, the Virginia poll was essentially the same in “Other” candidate and undecided. I repeat them for July “Other” 3%, Undecided 3%. However, and this is a huge however, Rasmussen had Virginia at Obama +1. Why? Because Romney himself lost his own support!!!! Look at the internals in July [Romney 46% Obama 48%.] It was not Mr. Goode in Virginia who “took” votes “from” Romney. It was Romney himself losing votes to Obama.

Following Rasmussen further, a month after that, on 7 August 2012, Rasmussen had Virginia at Obama +2. In this case, Obama took votes from the “Other” candidate…perhaps Goode’s democrat supporters. This is clear in the numbers. Romney still at 46% but Obama is at 48%, with “Other” losing a percent at 2%, Undecided remained the same 3%.

Later in August to monitor the convention affect, Rasmussen had a tie, undecided remained the same at 3%. “Other” candidate picked up support, back to 3% and that pulled Romney and Obama even at 47% each. So, clearly when the “Other” candidate in Virginia is polling stronger, the state is tipping to Tie, when the “Other” support is lower, the state of Virginia tips to Obama.

And to prove this assertion (not that I need to again, because the data I just provided shows this much) last week our friends with Rasmussen again polled and it demonstrated just what I said. “Other” support dropped to 1%, some movement finally in Undecided, dropping to 2%. And Romney had 48% Obama had 49%. ...Again, when “other” in Virginia polls stronger, that takes the state at least to a tie. When “Other” polls weaker, that tips the state to Obama.

It seems to me that the Romney people, instead of trying to stampede independent voters who don’t like him and won’t vote for him, they should be encouraging the Goode campaign. Again, the stronger the “Other” candidate polls the closer Romney is to a tie. If left to his own devices, Romney loses.
