Clay Starbuck, 47, has been arrested by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department on 1st Degree Murder and 1st Degree Burglary charges in connection with the death of his ex-wife, Chanin Starbuck.
Chanin’s body was found during a welfare check on Dec. 3rd. Mail had been piling up and a 911 call had been placed by a neighbor. Her body was found in her bedroom with bruises on her face and arms. According to Deputies she had been sexually assaulted and the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxia due to compression of the neck.
News sources report that Chanin allegedly believed her ex-husband was stealing guns and jewelry from her home because he was behind in child support. She had installed a security camera, but police have not been forthcoming with any information regarding what the surveillance system may have recorded.
Computers and Starbuck’s phone have been taken into evidence and there are concerns that a text message sent the same day as her death, allegedly requesting that Clay pick up their children, was possibly sent by the individual who killed her.
It has also been reported that DNA was recovered from the crime scene and is being investigated.
