Re: For those who want to know...RULES at my churc
I'm reminded of something that really happened once a woman that was not a Christian came into a Spirit Filled church and the evangelist decided to skin her up because of her appearance.
She went home and committed suicide, she left a note and it said something to the effect that I tried drugs and couldn't find peace,I tried other things and couldn't find peace,I went to church to find something and I could not find it there either.

The church in east Texas? Young preacher wanted to impress an elder. He preached hard against her pants, jewelry, makeup, etc. The lady was looking for hope. She was told that she could get help at that church. She attended service and when he preached against everything that she felt that she was, realizing there was no hope she took her own life.

Although it would be exceedingly hard to do (and prove), I wish the preacher would get the $1000 suit pants sued off of him by the victims family.

Re: For those who want to know...RULES at my churc
It's amazing how you can be in the midst of a cultish, legalistic, controlling church and not understand what is happening.
But even aside from the controlling aspect, there can still be a moving of the Holy Ghost, people being saved and coming into a relationship with God.
I know that God sees our hearts, and the love and service that we rendered unto the Lord was/is not in vain.

Sometimes especially young preachers try to impress...or get points...sad but true...

I went to church with all of them before they split and started their own.
Once some of the kids grew up and left, (maybe 15 years later) they told me some awful stories.
....and some I've seen for myself.

Re: For those who want to know...RULES at my churc
I have been in several different churches in my life, because of job transfers. Almost all of these have been what people on here would call UC.
None of them had rules that would be remotely viewed as controlling.
Nor have I heard of any others that were this controlling.
I think they are a very small, small portion of the group.

Re: For those who want to know...RULES at my churc
There was a thread several years ago on here. there were some pastors who would not allow a women to married in a white dress if she was not a virgin.
The girls were point blank asked if they were virgins by these pastors, if they were not they had to wear a dress of color (white is not a color)
I never got an answer to my question.
What do you pastors do to the groom who is not a virgin. How do you bring shame to him and his family on his wedding day? Do you make him wear a pink tux or something??
Maybe you sew a big NV on the back of his suit.
NOT ONE ANSWER from these dim wits.
Disgusting...revolting...give chapter an verse on a white wedding dress if you are a virgin

Ya, when we were in the church we had two pastors who definitely fit in the UC mode and were also far too controlling. They were NOT like the pastor, or church, mentioned in the top of this thread though. This guy probably already has multiple wives taken from men in his congregation because "God told me to take them!". Sex is the ultimate end game with men like this.

It was about that time that things began to turn around for me.
I'd like to think that perhaps He had given me the benefit His doubt as well.

If people would think about these statements, they might see how profound it really is.
