I'm most certain a pastor that speaks somewhere on the weekend doesn't go back to his church and say, deduct $500 from my check this week since I got paid to preach at another engagement.

This could be argued, as it is likely that the church would have to pay someone else to preach in his absence. I wouldn't push it if I were on the board as long as it wasn't excessive (which would have to be determined by the parties involved).

One of the elders or "preacher boys" in the local church could fill in when he was gone.
They wouldn't get paid for that.
