In that way, the internet is a good thing. These black holes of ignorance people were trapped in, being led by one, mighty, charismatic and powerful leader are coming to an end. People are smarter than that, and they have libraries at their fingertips now.

There is more evidence, during the beginning of the NT church age, to identify it than there is against it. No theologian will dispute that Acts was the beginning of the NT church.
Acts 2:4 "And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."
Acts 10:45 "And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. (46) For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,"
Acts 19:6 "And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied."

And there's enough there to say that a way people knew they had received the Spirit, was that the person spoke in tongues.
There's not enough there to say "that's the only way to receive the Spirit."
Why is that so hard to understand?

If someone changed their view of standards and grace because of the internet, then God bless the internet!!

I've heard prophesy at a time of gathering as well. Mostly, and lately, these gifts have been used (or given to us) at other times of getting together that have been less formal.
I know plenty of preachers that make a show out of a "gift." You do too. The best one is when they have a Word from God for someone, then proceed to preach it to everyone -- instead of going to that person. And why preach it with text and everything? Just say what God said... if He really said anything!
People have made a living out of being "used in gift." It's on their business cards and personal websites. Sounds foreign to the 1 Cor 14 experience to me.
But we digress. You still believe that when people prophesied in Acts, it's not evidence of the Holy Spirit, and I still find that position indefensible.

Well, it certainly gives you a much better understanding of the scriptures if you do operate in the gifts, IMO.
I'm not concerned with people making a show. And just because I asked you doesn't mean that I do either. God doesn't need me or you. The special thing about the gifts is that the recipients/hearers are made to feel that God has especially taken the time to minister to them at that moment in time. They don't even think about the person administering the gift, generally.

Where do you get that from?
I agree what you said about the gifts -- the gifts are a gift, to exhort, build up and edify one another... IN THE LORD.

No, I do not believe obesity is a sin. There are various reasons for it and some happen to have nothing to do with behavior. I do, however, believe that gluttony is a sin.

You are taking things waaaaaaaaaay too personal. It's obvious that debating is a new venture for you. They say, if you can't take the heat, get out of the fire. This Forum get's awfully hot sometimes, but that's how we learn. I am going to challenge your beliefs if I disagree, and I will rebuke, laugh, and accept some of what you say.
It's also obvious you've done very little research on American obesity. No offense OPII, but people get fat because they eat too much. A simple study shows how imbalanced and unhealthy we are because of our eating habits. I have many Apostolic friends who weigh 300-400 pounds, and because much of this “Weight” is in the ministry, very little is said about this horrific problem.
I was taught back in the 70’s when I was a new convert, our Temple, or body is to be treated as God’s Temple and that I should quit smoking because it was a bad witness and bad for my health.
You can slice it and dice it all you want too, but overeating in the Church today is no different than using nicotine; obesity is one of the leading causes of heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, joint failure, diabetes, and is an outward sign that people lack discipline.
If you are going to condemn someone for having short sleeves, or for wearing lip gloss, you are imbalanced if you don’t condemn those who eat too much.

Because if there was another sign, it would be just as plain as Peter being astonished that they, Cornelius, et. al, had received the Holy Ghost, knowing that they did because he heard them speak in tongues. That is pretty plain and conclusive, IMO.

NOW - c'mon work with me here! I know I'm stretching a point, but I think it is there, even if a small one!
I am on both forums, also!
Never been on AMF, though.

Because if you have experience in anything, you can talk about it with more knowledge. If I knew how to rebuild a motor, I could talk about that with clarity because I have experience.

Yes, of course, in the Lord. But, why focus on the very few, in my experience, that take it and run their own way? Why not just focus on what God is doing and making available in us?
