I was raised in a house completely devoid of religious influence, and so I never connected "geez" to the name Jesus. Of course, there was nothing wrong with saying Jesus as a cuss word, so that probably tells you something.

Ironically, being all "backslidden" now, the one true conviction that I have is not to use the name of Jesus as a curse word. Though I do occasionally say "good Lord" under my breath when my husband is irritating me. Which is really ironic, because one of my biggest problems is that I haven't been able to figure out if that is true

Once a year in Chapel service the same dear sister would give us the ole euphemism study. It has stuck with me all these years. When I slip I think of her.

One of my credit manager's most frequently used expressions is Holy Catfish. I keep wondering if they're holy because she prays over them or what!!

I've never heard "dag on".

I see no problem with "shoot". It has no connection to anything holy or unholy that I know of and isn't a euphemism with connection with God.

When preachers from the South have come up here to our area to preach and use the "My Lord" ... "Good God" expressions like an oath, many people were very shocked. Our preachers just didn't do that.
