Not possible.
New Delhi: The White House will, of course, stay in Washington but the heart of the famous building will move to India when President Barack Obama lands in Mumbai on Saturday.

Communications set-up, nuclear button, a fleet of limousines and majority of the White House staff will be in India accompanying the President on this three-day visit that will cover Mumbai and Delhi.

He will also be protected by a fleet of 34 warships, including an aircraft carrier, which will patrol the sea lanes off the Mumbai coast during his two-day stay there beginning Saturday. The measure has been taken as Mumbai attack in 2008 took place from the sea.

Arrangements have been put in place for emergency evacuation, if needed.

Obama is expected to fly by a helicopter -- Marine One -- from the city airport to the Indian Navy's helibase INS Shikra at Colaba in south Mumbai.

From there, he will drive down in Lincoln Continental -- the Presidential limousine -- to the nearby the Taj Hotel.

Two jets, armed with advanced communication and security systems, and a fleet of over 40 cars will be part of Obamas convoy.

Around 800 rooms have been booked for the President and his entourage in Taj Hotel and Hyatt.

Re: Obama Trip to India: $200 Million a Day

Okay, here's my question:

Regardless of the specific costs of any portion of this trip, is this convoy normal for when a President goes overseas?

I would think his protection would be paramount.

I would suspect this is more than normal since there's unrest in the area. Might be a clue that he shouldn't GO!

All of this is coming from an indian source and no major American news agency has agreed to these "facts"

you know i dont like Obama and will take every chance to take shots at him.

however, truth is vastly more important than false slam.

This is an incredible thread. It's like people are so wrapped up in their "them vs. us" mentality that common sense, objectivity, and balance are becoming irrelevant.

We hate spin, wild unsubstantiated claims, and unreliable news reports...unless, of course, it happens to be against one of "them". In the mean time, those calling the real shots play both sides against the middle.

I know that some have shot this story down here. I'm just saying that it almost seems like we troll the "news" looking for articles that hurt "their guys" and run with them regardless of the source. However, we are much more discerning when the reports are about "our guys".

Coadie is a special case for sure. But the idea that a thread can be started with a wild accusation, then have someone who disagrees be the one told to provide proof is crazy.

Re: Obama Trip to India: $200 Million a Day

Just wondering, how do they figure the cost of things like this? Shouldn't it be only the additional cost that would not have been expended if the trip hadn't happened? E.g., one would count only the cost of extra fuel used on the trip over the fuel that would have been used in a vehicle's normal duties. One should count the wages of temporary personnel hired just for the purpose of the trip (special security/logistics, maybe?), but not of people who'd have been paid their salaries anyway.

Just wondering.

And, then there's Rush and Beck that's been talking about it too.

Who knows - - the costs could include what it would cost to shut down or business lost at hotels, etc.

Air Force One isn't used everyday - so that would be a cost for sure and using the figures from the Whitehouse on that for a 20 hour trip it would be around $1M.

I'm pretty sure the real numbers won't be readily available.
