The last major medical encyclopedia from the Islamic world was Şerafeddin Sabuncuoğlu's surgical atlas, Cerrahiyyetu'l-Haniyye (Imperial Surgery). Though his work was mostly based on Abu al-Qasim al-Zahrawi's Al-Tasrif, he also introduced many innovations of his own.[/B]
All interesting stuff, huh? I did a quick google yesterday after the question was posed. History is so fascinating.

OH. You are defending GM. In my excitement to teach you where modern medicine came from I totally forgot that I offended you. I did not pick GM out of a hat. I traded in a GM for that Toyota. I owned it 1 1/2 years. During the 1 1/2 years I owned it, the heating coil broke and started steaming water/antifreeze from behind the dash. A bracket broke on the rear end - the one that holds the drive shaft in place. The ignition/security system broke, developed a short, and ran down two batteries (before they figured out what was wrong and how to repair it). The AC broke when the seals went out. Finally there was some unknown something that broke, the check engine light came on, and different parts in the vacuum/air system were replaced until said light went off. With that said, hopefully you do not buy that GM I traded in for your business. Here lies the problem. My wife drove that car. When something broke my brave fellow americans would catcall her with remarks like "raghead" and stuff like that. Not when I was with her, only when she was alone. Very brave, tough guys. SO, to eliminate this problem, I made sure that I bought her a car that had high reliability ratings. SO, I technically did not tell the whole story when I said I didnt buy the car for political or religious reasons. Reliability was a mild concern for those reasons. Certainly GM didn't shine in that area either (speaking from a stastical stanpoint only).

Hopefully she won't get hit someday by a drunk driver. When Jabir Ibn Hayyan, 721–815 invented the alembic still, observing that heated wine from this still released a flammable vapor, he recorded his observations and moved on to study the distillation of other things. Personally I believe that he was probably thinking that someday this would certainly help keep podunk rednecks busy in the backwoods, thus preventing them from trolling the roads in their shabby GM trucks screeching "raghead" at innocent people. Just a thought.

While completing the purchase, I was very glad that this guy named Al-Jazari had invented the crankshaft back in the 13th century. His book, The Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices, published in 1206, specifically outlined the design of all kinds of clever things in that car. Mechanical flywheels, recip/screw pumps, all kinds of cool stuff. Did I leave out the development of distillation techniques? Because without that, you don't make the gas to run the darn car.

All stop and go because we are training student drivers. My personal car is a Cadillac which averages 25 mpg on the highway. Go peddle your nonsense to your Muslim friends.

GM is great.

Never has a Muslim country been able to invent a car, build a factory and mass produuce it. Seems the MUSLIMs are failures in business and industrializing. So sad.

General Motors is a larger country in terms of revenue than the GDP of all or if not all, almost 100% of the Muslim countries. OIL is really about all they have and the americans driled it, produced it refine it and market it for them after a time the Arabs even stole ARAMCO which was a huge American consortium in the gulf. Afghanistan has a per capita income under 400 dollars. why so low? It is mostly opium at that.

No, the Muslims live off the money they get from selling minerals they didn't create to countries that were founded in christianity.

Re: Apology to World

You seem upset. Is it because you are beginning to realize that everything you have, or do, or use, was created by building on the ideas of the cultures that came before you?

NOTE: Sit down. Do not be stunned. GM is not a country. But if it was, their net 2008 revenue of negative 10.7 billion dollars pretty much defines the term "failures in business and industrializing". I thank you for putting it into words for me. I was struggling for just how to summarize my personal GM experience in one neat little phrase and you cleverly nailed it.

Perhaps, like Saudi and Abu Dubai did for Citibank, a Muslim country will step in and infuse some cash into their operations. As it turns out, like Citibank, the GM customer base, though loud and annoying, with mouths that are able to write large checks (would you care to know who developed, in the 9th century, the system of checks or sakks as they were originally called that are the instruments of banking today) those checks were unable to provide GM with enough cash to keep them afloat without outside help. I offer that perhaps the GM customer base is credit-strapped?

Regards,

WII

They are flashing signs now in Houston stating this month if you do not have a Twic card you will not be allowed in the Port of Houston.

Re: Apology to World

Mike your comment here "7 of the 9 Supreme Court Justices sitting on the bench, including the Chief Justice, were appointed by your Republican Presidents. Makes one go hmmmm, huh?" makes me have to ask you if you realize that the ones the Republicans really wanted to appoint the Democrats refused. Not only that the committee wouldn't bring some to the floor to even be voted on. I sure hope the same favor is done for Obama.

The biggest fear for the democrats is an outward display of pro life by a supreme court nomination.

Why else would Mike support Obama? Nominations that have pro life in their background make the democrats go ballistic. Abortion is the foundation of fornication, adultery and extramarital sex. It is the last weapon for them against pregnancy. Too bad the liberals have no response to why their ways are not God's ways and they can't abort STD's

Yeah, everyone who works on the ship channel had to get one to continue go to work. Applies to all the chemical plants and refineries as well as to the port.

That is a disgusting video. This comment was one of the most crass, IMO:

(To Planned Parenthood) "Thanks for all you do...for men who have enough sense to realize you're helpin' them all across the country."

Obama undermines the authority of the Supreme Court.

"We know that five men don't know better than women and their doctors what's best for a woman's health."

Obama is definitely FOR abortion, and sings its praises.

He is NOT neutral on this issue (as many tried to claim prior to the election, to help justify their choices in voting), but is nearly a zealot FOR abortion.

He also extols Margaret Sanger, whose views were terrible, and racist, to say the least.

I can barely stand Obama generally speaking, but on this issue, I just get sick to my stomach.

Regarding the thread topic--there are lots of things America has done wrong, and lots of things America has done right. If Obama wants to apologize for something, he should be apologizing for the millions of babies aborted, for supporting a racist, prejudiced woman (Margaret Sanger) who thought abortion would get rid of the inferior people, and for glibly supporting abortion because it rids young men of responsibility.

The America I know and love is being changed into something terrible by President Obama and his ultra-liberal cronies, and I fear our freedom will never be the same again. Nevertheless, God is still Lord over all, so I will not worry too much about those things I can't change.
