Oh, now my grandmother is "stupid" because she can't afford both medication... and food. Way to go Nitehawk... spoken like a true conservative. *rolls eyes*

Re: Republicans Don't Care About Middle Class
You want me to say she is a genius? If she didn't look into the facts instead of listening to peopel like Obama and the AARP, and if YOU didn't inform her of the facts of the Romney/Ryan plan, then it's her own fault she made a foolish decision. There is NO WAY for the GOP to be any more clear about the fact that their plan would not have touched any benefits for anyone currently 55 or older. Yet many, apparently you grandmother included, chose to ignore it or not look into it and listen to the left instead.
Personally I kinda hope the whole system blows up and goes broke soon so those who voted for Obama out of that fear see it realized and feel the pain of thier decision instead of me and my children having to deal with the pain of them happily kicking the can down the road.

Wow... you'd rather see elderly people desperate than ask a millionaire or billionaire to pay a little more in taxes.
Here's the deal... the Republican plan might not touch anyone 55 or older... but it would affect those who will be entering that age group. Maybe people like my grandmother believe that once this war is over, the money we're going to save can be used to secure medicare and social security for another generation. Maybe she sees that if we play our cards right... we can extend what her generation secured to the next. Because my grandmother personally mentioned that with all the money we are spending in Iraq and Afghanistan... we wouldn't have to cut benefits so severely. Remember... she's not stupid... she has more years on earth than both of us put together. lol

Aquilla, you are a great guy. but, in light of your views expressed here, I don't really know how you can consider yourself to be libertarian. You really sound like a left Democrat. I'm truly not saying that to be unkind.
If you were truly libertarian, you'd be calling for the elimination of ALL taxes on ALL icome for ALL Amricans. You'd understand that our economic problems are not a result of the super rich not paying enough. You'd see that asking them to "pay a little more' is just a smoke screen and will not help us one bit.

You're kidding right? It won't be a savings when the wars end because we BORROW every penny to pay for them from other countries! Good Grief! That is not a true savings. I suppose we should then just borrow to pay for those programs?
The program cannot be paid for without borrowing...then kill the program. That should be the way we go at our Federal budget.

A "little more" so that they are paying their fair share. I'd love to see elimination of income taxes. FairTax would be something I'd like to see tested personally. I'm against corporate welfare. I'm against war. I think welfare in itself is a state issue (and should be heavily regulated to prevent abuse). Ideally, we'd not need welfare. I would go for either a free market approach to health care (no money NO TREATMENT) or single payer... everyone pays into the system period... no free rides driving up my premiums. One libertarian idea is universal catastrophic coverage with private insurance picking up the ruitine stuff. I'm against government regulations accept with regards to anything that could endanger life, liberty, or property of another. I think government should get out of our bedrooms and marriage should be a private contract. I don't believe government has any place seizing a woman's body and forcing her to give birth. As sad of a reality as it might be... it's her body... it's her choices... even if her choices land her in Hell. I don't believe the drug war as been a success and I'd curtail it's expansion and increase personal liberties by having some substances regulated at the state level like alcohol.
I'm far more Libertarian than Republican or Democrat.

The top one percent of income earners pay nearly forty percent of all income tax collected by the Feds. In your opinion, what percent of income taxes collected should come from this group?

Re: Republicans Don't Care About Middle Class
Good article.
Quote:
The Federal Reserve: Destroying the Middle Class and Life as We All Know It
The Federal Reserve was formed to promote sustainable economic growth by: stability of prices to help preserve the purchasing power of the dollar, moderate long-term interest rates, ensure high levels of employment, and overall, make sure the U.S. has a sound banking system and healthy economy. It is clear that the Fed is not delivering on these objectives today.
