20 Don’ts For Young Preachers

This isn't original but I found it in my files and thought it might be of interest to some around here.

20 Don’ts For Young Preachers

1) Don’t fail to pray.

2) Don't deal in off-color stories.

3) Don't be a pessimist.

4) Don't scold or deal in personalities.

5) Don't belittle little things.

6) Don't be lazy.

7) Don't neglect the sick and sorrowing.

8) Don't fail to keep your appointments.

9) Don't live beyond your income.

10) Don't be a stingy person.

11) Don't betray a confidence.

12) Don't lose your temper in public.

13) Don't be jealous of your fellow ministers.

14) Don't not use the Bible for your preaching texts.

15) Don't be artificial or sensational.

16) Don't preach your doubts.

17) Don't preach so much against things as for principles.

18) Don't be tempted on any occasion not to preach your best.

19) Don't allow anyone to dictate your message.

20) Don't fail to pray.

See, this is why he is a great example for a younger minister to emulate.

If the youngsters DID choose a guy like rrford to pattern themselves after, the up and coming generation of UPC preachers would be and could be taken a little more seriously.

Too bad this is focused on young preachers. I know quite a few baby boomers who really could have used these twenty commandments.
