Victor Hugo wrote The Hunchback of Notre Dame to call attention to the poor condition of the cathedral. It worked. The repairs were made more quickly because of his novel. It is said the windows were broken and treasures had been stolen. He got people's attention with the Hunchback. It didn't fare too well during the French Revolution.

Been there MANY times! The best deal though is about ten minutes away in Shipshewanna! The Amish restaraunt there is incredible AND the Mennonite/Amish Cultural museum is a MUST see! They have a guided tour, explaining the various differences between Old Order Amish (men wear THREE buttons on their shirts), New Order Amish (Disfellowshipped because the men wear FOUR buttons on theirs), Hutterites, Mennonites, Brethren, Beechy Amish (Absolutely disfellowshipped! Their women wear the Same Amish pattern dresses and Bonnets BUT are allowed (shudder) to wear them in Pastel colours NOT prints, of peach, pinks and Apricots) it surely helps give some insight into the human nature that has caused so many differences in the Apostolic Faith! Elder Jimmy Wyant pastors there in Nappanee, ACI and he is a wonderful man, he and his wife are "Old Timers" who are originally out of Christ Temple SOUTH BEND (Old Brother Ray Jones church, later Pastored by Martin Ballestero Senior and Junior.)

I would definitely head over to Shipshewanna, its just minutes away. (Also they happen to be one of the few sites of a Wells Fargo Bank east of the Mississippi river.) But go see the Cultural center. INTERESTING POINT...They have a diroama that just screams History of the modern Pentecostal movement. Evidently just like US the original members of their group were not as clothing obsessed as they became later, the original Amish being clothed in finery and jewels of the day (1500s Switzerland, Germany and Holland) the black and the bonnets is a much later development, kind of like ...well I'll leave THAT alone. But definitely do Shipshewanna, you WONT be sorry!

P.S. we don't EVEN want to discuss the Mennonites...they have compromised completely and actually have Cars, Electricity and BATHROOMS ***INSIDE*** (!!!!) the home!

Shipshewana Indiana has a huge auction each Wednesday. At least 10 acutioneers working the same time under one roof. Huge flea market on Tuesday and Wednesdays. It would take 2 days for the flea market. Many shops and neat things to see.

Town fills up on Tues. and Wed. but dies way down afterwards. Hard to find motel rooms on these days. Great area for a large concentration of amish/mennonite shops etc.

Note there is a large constituency of Old Order Mennonites who are still non - auto (Horse and Buggy) about a hundred of them are my reletives.

Yes, someone else told me about Shipshewanna....Maybe I can check out both places IF I get to go.
