I wouldn't be surprised, I certainly believe he believed what he was preaching, sincerely believing that it would help folks from being lost.
And he is likely surprised and relieved that folks were not in the danger that he envisioned.

I have listened to some of his preaching online, years ago. He seemed to preach more like preachers did 'back then' than they do now. Sincere and no beating around the bush.

A Pentecostal version of Charles Finney, in fact.

Hell is very real an those who do not obey the gospel (REpentance, bapitism in Jesus name, the infilling of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking with other tongues and living a life of holines) will certainly find out that hell is real. A place where the worm dieth not and the fire is not quincied,
