Re: O.R. Fauss has went home to be with the Lord

My husband and I heard him preach a revival when we first got in the church. We were absolutely scared to death! Even too scared to get up and go to the bathroom! LOL!

Pastor Orlin R. Fauss was 1 year old when his parents moved to Houston to begin Bethel Tabernacle. He grew up watching and participating in the establishment and growth of Bethel. After graduating from Milby High School in Houston he graduated from Apostolic Bible College in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1947, he and his wife, Lois, entered the ministry as traveling evangelists. Their travels were throughout Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

Brother and Sister Fauss pastured churches in Diboll, Texas, Nacogdoches, Texas and Jena, Louisiana before moving to Houston. During this period of time, their three sons Deryl, David and Gary were born.

Rev. O. R. Fauss, together with his wife, Lois, and three sons, moved to Houston in January 1960. They moved from Shady Grove, Jena, Louisiana to help his father, the late Oliver F. Fauss, the founder the church.

In 1976, a new sanctuary was built at 14615 Aldine-Westfield Rd. In 1978, Pastor O.R. Fauss felt the need for Christian education and Bethel Christian Academy was founded. BCA has graduated hundreds of students over the past 29 years. For over 47 years, Pastor and Mrs. O.R. Fauss have been the wonderful pastors of Bethel Tabernacle. Literally, many hundreds of people have been saved and touched by the powerful pastoral ministry of Pastor O.R. Fauss. Many of these are scattered throughout churches in Houston area serving the Lord.

Pastor O.R. Fauss became one of the greatest evangelists of our time, seeing thousands saved by giving himself to preaching your camps, camp meetings and conferences all across our fellowship and around the world. Pastor Fauss preached over 200 camp meetings, youth camps and youth conventions. He served as the first Youth President of the Texas District United Pentecostal Church in the early 50s. He served for with years as an instructor at Texas Bible College writing and completing an extensive doctrinal study that he used as a curriculum for his classes. He also served for many years on the United Pentecostal Church International Sunday School Curriculum Committee.
His father served as both an Assistant General Superintendent and General Superintendent of the UPC.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

He was a fire and brimstone preacher, the threats of death and hell, as the primary method of evangelizing. Now I haven't heard him in about 40 years, so that could have very well changed, I certainly hope so. He was respected in the UPC as one of the greats, but his preaching was spiritual abuse to me as a child. But, hey that was the method in those days.
