I think that is much different than having a few plants.

Same thing happened with Kerry. You had to be invited to come and then the plants asked the questions they were asssigned to ask.

Okay, I have always viewed a "plant" as someone among all those that attend a meeting that is not a controlled and selected audience.
I wasn't aware that Kerry had done that, but I wasn't paying much attention to him at the time. LOL!

Whenever a political candidate runs on transparency and then screens all questions at press conferences, it makes me shake my head.
When President Obama does well, I will say so.
When he doesn't, I will still say so.
Lately, I am not impresed or enthused with some of his latest decisions and interactions.
Had McCain won, maybe much sooner than now, I would have typed I am not that impressed or enthused with some of his latest decisions and interactions.
But he didn't. Obama did. I was glad. I still am glad. I don't like everything that is happening, but he beats the alternative.

Re: You Go, Helen Thomas!!!
1. Robert Gibbs is a first class IDIOT.
2. Helen Thomas still has a steel spine at age 88--kudos to her!!!
Personal politics aside, I AGREE with her--and my country--about the freedom of the press/free speech. Dictators who are afraid of losing power and/or having their true motives discovered FEAR the free press.

Jermyn,
I don't believe that Obama was ever the best alternative.
When "The" Helen Thomas can say - Shocking, Shocking and we have never seen this in the White House before.......
That is something!
The Helen Thomas - Every theater-style seat in the White House briefing room, now closed for renovation, had a brass plaque inscribed with the name of a news organization. Only one, in the middle of the front row, had a name: “HELEN THOMAS,” it said. The unique assigned seat between the chairs for CBS News and ABC News was reserved for the legendary United Press International correspondent who is now a columnist for Hearst Newspapers.
She was seeing and telling more than some will acknowledge.
