Re: Water/Spirit Doctrine Destroyed Beautifully

Just locate "water" and "spirit" in the first gospel message ever preached and you will understand the new birth Jesus spoke of.

Here it comes.

37Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:37-38

Its not that hard. Did Peter and the apostles tell the crowd what they must do to be born again?

The doctrine of Christ's apostles is pure and holy and true.

The pitiful evangelical distortion is destroyed wonderfully by it.

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

"1. The United Pentecostal Church International (UPCI) adds to the simplicity of the Gospel of Salvation that is taught by Jesus Christ - and that is in Jesus Christ (II Cor 11:2-4) - by teaching that, to be born again, a person must do certain physical acts, namely:
a. Be baptized in water (which they claim is burial in Christ), and

b. Speak in tongues (which they claim is proof of resurrection in the Spirit)
2. Note that Eph 2:8,9 refutes this doctrine of 'works' salvation. (There is nothing that a person can 'do' physically to be saved. One must only 'do' non-physical things - i.e. repent from sin and surrender the heart to God. Salvation pertains to the state of the heart; not to that of the body. That is one reason why we cannot be saved by our works.)
1)- No one before Zwingli ever taught that water baptism was the "works of man".

2)- Since cognition involves the firing of neurons in the brain, the very act of the mind thinking about faith and exercising faith would then be categorized as physical activity and therefore, by your own definition above, be considered "works".

John 3:5King James Version (KJV)

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Okay, lets take a closer look...
John 3:5King James Version (KJV)

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except(or unless=OPTIONAL) a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God....notice both water and Spirit are equally optional by the word "except"

Simply saying just as you can NOT be born of the Spirit, you also can NOT be born of the water.

Simply saying just as you can NOT be born of the Spirit, you also can NOT be born of the water.
Except = Unless
As found in the NASV
5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Now, don't go removing us from the simplicity that is in Christ! That might lead to corrupted, beguiled minds. Why, it might even lead to "another Jesus"!

Re: Water/Spirit Doctrine Destroyed Beautifully

Did Jesus command that we be baptized or is it an unbiblical tradition of man?

I don't know how much more simple the questions could be? The KJV is written on a 5th grade reading level. Are you smarter than a 5th grader?
