I did a Google search and couldn't find anything. Based on his age (72) and I am sure being a first offense I would guess if not probation then at most house arrest for a short time at his $2 million dollar mansion.
Hopefully preachers everywhere will learn about this case and it will keep them from trying to evade Federal reporting laws regarding movement of large sums of money.
Which by the way I can't imagine if you are not doing anything illegal or underhanded why you would want to try and avoid those laws anyway.

Hopefully Congress will act to remove that stupid law. It's no business of the government how people deposit or withdraw their money.

The law is there for a reason not just for the fun of it. The world has gotten to be a much more complex place than it was 30 years ago and this law is a tool to catch money laundering, etc.
The government is not stopping anybody from making cash transactions of $10,000 or more but just requires documentation. I don't particularly like the law but understand why it is there and it does serve a purpose.
Why would a christian have something to hide in handling cash? I certainly cannot imagine why a pastor would.

Re: Pastor Jerry Cox makes the news
I believe they have postponed the sentencing to allow him to testify in the case against the ex-DA.
I was told this, but do not "know" it, so take it with a grain of salt.

At his age he just needs to push that ball along a few more years and they will never sentence him!

Is it bad that I found this remark actually funny?

Not unless you would be offended if someone was joking about your proximity to death when you reach an old age someday. As for CC1...he is more than likely closer to his expiration date than you.

Re: Pastor Jerry Cox makes the news
Just speculation here but if he pled guilty and testified in Walter Reed's trial, he might get off with a slap on the wrist. I know of a woman who was convicted of 45 counts (not a typo) of structuring and she was sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison. She and her husband (at whom the book was thrown-he got 10 years) were also fined the amount of the structured funds. In this couple's case, they went to trial, did not put on a defense, and at no point cooperated with the authorities. So I think Pastor Cox is in a much better posiion here.
Now about Walter Reed's trial, it appears from a January 5 article in the New Orleans Advocate that he and his son will be tried together on various charges beginning April 18. So if Pastor Cox was going to testify, his sentence may not be until after that.
Now, about structuring-it's often used in criminal cases where you have the money (fruit of the crime) being moved around to avoid detection, but you can't gat them for the actual bribery or drug smuggling or what have you. It's the modern-day version of getting Al Capone for not paying his taxes because you can build a case for that, but not for the murders or whiskey-running.
I work for an evil, too big to fail bank and we have to undergo training on structuring every year. I'm a mandatory reporter-if I hear you discussing how you're going to structure your withdrawals to avoid the reporting requirements, I have to report you (or lose my job). That said, I don't think I know anyone rustling around with even $10K in cash.
I would aldo note that money laundering is a real issue, with illicit drug dealers trying to find places to stash their cash. Some years ago, I heard about a bank manager in the Texas side of the border who was literally laundering thousands and thousands of dollars at home. The bank vault smelled of fabric softener and dozens of cartons of "Bounce" were found in his laundry room. Just thinking about it gives me the giggles.
