If a wild animal was attacking me or my children, I would indeed respond with a deadly weapon if possible. Without hesitation at all. If a wild human were attacking myself or my family, should I do the same? What is the difference? The wild beast has no soul, a human does. But, they both have the same intention... to harm or kill me... so therefore in turn, I would do all possible to protect myself, and my family.
I like the idea of bear spray. It will stop most two or four legged creatures in their tracks... although not all (see my above post). I plan on investing in more bear spray and putting it in our home. At least I would be protecting my family, yet not left with the knowledge that I have taken someone else's life in the process, and then letting the judicial system deal with them.
Has anyone else considered bear spray as an alternative to a gun? Or at least as a backup?

I use both. In fact, as I type this I have my car keys attached to a pepper spray vial in my pocket. I also have a Streamlight Strion flashlight in my other pocket. Unfortunately, my employer (a school) does not allow guns on campus and since I am law abiding, the only ones who WILL bring them here are the criminals. I DO have it (in a separate locked box) along with several full mags in my car in the parking lot though.

Re: Guns: An Important Discussion
This is interesting. I've lived in rough urban areas of Dayton Ohio all of my life... and I've never felt the need to carry a weapon or spray. (I wanted a gun because I thought it would be fun to take to the range and maybe home protection.) And... I've never been in a situation wherein I felt I needed it.

Re: Guns: An Important Discussion
I have been in situations where I wish I had one. A number of co-workers have as well -and one I know of who actually drew it (thankfully he DID have one at the time), which in turn caused the four knife wielding thugs to back off without him having to fire.

Re: Guns: An Important Discussion
I've never had a situation where I felt like we needed a gun. So thankful for that.
There have been times we've been out in the wilderness and I was so thankful that we had bear spray.
One time, we were out on some property walking all over it. We had gotten back in our car when two bears, a brown and black one... ran by our car. I was glad we were in the car lol! But, we had our trusty bear spray... just in case.
I walk often with my dogs here out in the National Forest across the road from my house. I've seen tracks of big animals. Last Sunday, the kids were snowmobiling through the National Forest, and had just come inside to drink hot cocoa. My son looked out the window, and saw something huge coming out of the trees... it was a huge bull moose. He entertained us for a few minutes, and then ran back into the forest, on the same trail the kids had just been riding...

Re: Guns: An Important Discussion
Animals are the main reason we carry when we go hiking (along with the pepper spray). Having a conceal carry permit allows carrying in most Federal parks.

I grew up in the Valley St. Plat area of North Dayton. I had a gun pointed at me on several occasions before I got saved. I was not old enough to buy a gun then and they did not have concealed carry anyway. I have seen and been part of roving gangs driving around with chains, baseball bats, and other forms of instruments looking for people to hurt.
It does not take a gun to kill someone. Any solid hit to the head could do it. I saw one of my neighbors get hit over the head with a pipe one night as a rival gang jumped us. Before the night was over there were truckloads of guys out looking for each other armed mostly with such instruments.
More people die by clubs and fists each year than "assault rifles" and shotguns put together. Generally speaking I support gun rights and have concealed carry myself.
IF I ever in a case where its not possible to live peacably with all men have to shoot I trust the Lord Jesus it will just bring enough injury to stop the attack.

Do you believe Jesus would do that?
This isn't about gun rights. I firmly believe in gun rights. This question is about the Christian ethic with regards to the use of violence and/or deadly force.
While I respect your belief... to me... we're called to a higher standard. We're called to immulate Christ. Since Jesus commands us to not be violent, not to resist evil, not to render evil for evil, to rather to be defrauded than to seek justice... many believe that "obedience to Christ" might cost one their lives on the streets of a thug infested neighborhood... or the in an underground church of in Muslim nation. Martyrdom could be around any corner. If seasoned saints aren't ready to die as a result of obedience to Christ right now... when will they be???

I think the 30 round mags are the ones that are so hard to find right now. I could have bought some for $29 at the time I purchased my gun but I already have 9 coming I ordered from two different places. Some for $15 and some for $17.75. I am going to sell 3 of them for $35 each to pay for most of the rest!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."
