Of course, God, through His grace, brings good out of bad. Only He can do that. But you said, "God's ways are not our ways" seemingly implying that God had a "Way" in all this. I don't believe that and I don't believe scripture ever backs up that notion.
Here's another point to consider: The statement, "God's ways are not our ways", which is taken from the book of Isaiah, is almost always used
completely out of context. When Isaiah wrote that, he was talking about God's mercy. God will have mercy on whom He will have mercy....for His ways are not our ways and His thoughts, not our thoughts.
That statement is nearly always used in a "We'll understand it better by and by" sort of way, but that's not, at all, what it means.
This notion that God sits up in heaven like a puppet-master, pulling the strings of our lives, is an EXTREMELY faulty one.
