God bless.
You can scientifically prove that putting water in a gas tank will WILL make it quit running. You can't scientifically prove that voting "yes" on video WILL WILL WILL lead to everything else on the slipper slope, and if it does then again, there is NOTHING you can do, because we already voted in video.

Voting in advertisements on TV will only vote in advertisements on TV. Whether or not the next jump is made solely depends on that organization and not past votes. Slippery slope is a fallacy.

BTW putting water in your gas tank will cause you to buy a motercycle instead next time. Is that true? Or is that just a supposition?

It is more than NO. What about the Internet? Zero restrictions.

BOOMM, I am looking at the questions now, and if they are the same as yours, I do not see anything regarding unrestricted internet...?

Yes, it is more than NO in the fact that TV is not the only trial on the docket, but in simple reference to the hot button issue before us, the answer is NO.

Prax,

slightly off topic but Speaking of the Western district, did you hear there is talk of spliting it into 3 Districts now????

Sacramento north would be one District. stockton to Bkfld. and the Bay would be Central (which would be were I would be) and grapevine south would be the southern. also, Nevada wants their own district too

I asked this question of you before and you must have missed it:

What, in your mind, constitutes advertising on television?

Scientifically, the bumblebee's body is too heavy and it's wings not big enough to allow it to fly.

If a poster posted something he/she thought needed to be read or commented on and thought it was passed over, they will "bump" it themselves, looking for a response.

I simply though you had a good post and exhibited a good attitude with it and I wanted others to have a chance to read it.

Have found much substance in all of your posts, BTW.
Thank you. I'm a little slooooow. Much appreciated.

We actually agree on something!!! Well, partially. I believe that much (not most) of the UPC started down a road that is indeed a slippery slope when we voted to allow video. Someone said, "Give the devil an inch, and he'll become a ruler." But I do not believe that we are "doomed" as an organization - and the church is certainly not doomed. I know of one pastor who, about 17 years ago started down the road of allowing video, they progressed to television and before long were allowing women to cut their hair, etc., etc. After about 9 years of that progression, the pastor was convicted in prayer - God dealt with him - and he went to the pulpit and told his church, "I have led you wrong. We are going back to the old ways. We're getting rid of our televisions....etc." He now consideres himself a conservative Apostolic. We cannot leave God out of the picture. He, if we will hear His voice and harden not our hearts as in the days of the provocation - will talk to us and call us as a people to repent. Repentance throws salt and sand onto the slippery slope so that we can reverse our course. I believe that He is looking for repentance among those who are called by His name that have departed from the old paths...

I think the Western district should split into one district per church. Then each pastor would be totally happy with the way "his" district functions were run!

Sounds like you may have read "The Vanishing Word" by Arthur W. Hunt III. I couldn't agree more!

"Hunt focuses on the contrast between a Judeo-Christian heritage, characteristically word-dependent—and paganism, typically image-dependent. As people trust experience and visual representations to interpret their surroundings, they focus less on content and more on sensory appeal. Hunt argues that movements like the Protestant Reformation, Puritanism, and the beginnings of the American nation were all created and sustained in an environment that transmitted its ideas through words, while historical shifts to emphasize image have occurred during periods like the Dark Ages. As the word, both written and spoken, is devalued, there is a renewed descent into paganism.

A wide range of issues—education, politics, entertainment, postmodernism—are brought together in an incisive, illuminating way. This book examines trends in today’s culture and churches that lead away from a word-centered world and into an image-soaked world ripe for propaganda and a demagogue."
