I mourn for those of you who, by seeing things that were wrong, turned from truth.
I do not believe those turned from the truth, perhaps some did, but most kept on going with the truth, they just decided to leave a human created organization.

The heresy hunters are still with us. Only now, instead of stakes, they use their books and radio programs to destroy those they consider heretics.... I'm concerned that heresy hunting may be turning into leukemia because some cultwatchers seem more intent on destroying parts of the body than healing the body....
By chance, would you have an idea of a way to search for these said churches? I've found some in other states, but I live in Georgia and haven't found any here.

Ooh, I can actually be helpful for once! Does Chuck Tatum still post here? He has a church near Athens, GA that is oneness/Acts 2:38 and not focused on standards. Not sure where you are located, but I can get you more information if necessary.
Also, I'm in Winder, GA, between Athens and Lawrenceville, feel free to send me a message if you need someone to talk to. (Full Disclosure: I left the UPC 6 or 7 years ago, and am now an unchurched liberal Christian.)

We are at a crossroads and must make movement soon. God has opened doors for us to explore non-UPC, Acts 2:38 non-standards driven churches in our area. Churches we didn't know existed, but with a little digging and prayer, we've found a handful that seem to meet the criteria we've set.
And while we are currently frustrated with the UPC, we cannot help but feel sadness over the idea of leaving. Our hearts are heavy, and we don't make this decision lightly. It's proving harder to take that next step than I anticipated.
I haven't read through the whole thread, but having just left the UPC recently, we did not mourn the way we thought we would after most of those who said they loved us now treat us like refuse, spread rumors about us, etc. Funny thing, before we left we talked to a Pastor in Texas who left years ago and he gave us a list of things that would happen when we left ... we could have used it as a checklist. It is hard for me to believe the UPC has the true Spirit of God at work when the ministry is so poisonous whenever somebody leaves the org.
Perhaps not everybody has had the same experience ... but my Pastor knows hundreds who have. We are also now reaching out into the community of ex-upcers that have been horribly abused psychologically in our area ... it is truly sickening. It sure gives fodder to those who say the UPC is a cult. In many ways it measures up to exactly what the definition of a cult is.
If you mourn it won't be for long. Choose a church that understands the importance of God's love for people and you won't mourn at all.

I welcome comments of both those who agree and disagree. Please note, I am more likely to consider your position if your response is polite and godly.
Just started on this thread. I left the UPC about 20 years ago now! I still have many friends and family members still involved in the UPC.
I never got poor treatment or the stink eye when I left. I guess I was lucky! Maybe it's because I always treated them with respect. Who knows?
What I do mourn is that the UPC has changed very little over time. Somehow, being frozen in the 1950's became the bar of acceptance. Refusing to accept new technology in entertainment has put them more and more out of touch with society as a whole. Small differences of opinion on doctrine and extra-biblical issues became more and more intolerable as the years have gone by.
It appears things are beginning to change a little as the "old guard" is passing on, but it has a long way to go! It may be too little too late! They have lost a generation of their best and brightest potential leaders, IMO.

I don't agree with the UPC belief on dress standards, but I do believe they're right on technology and entertainment. The older I get, the less I can stand for what passes as entertainment today. Movies and television programs are a continuous assault on the nuclear family and values which used to be held in respect.
A few years ago I cut off cable tv. I'm close to doing the same with Netflix.

I don't disagree with you. When the UPC banned TV was when "I Love Lucy" and "The Andy Griffith Show" was on. I agree that there is not much on these days that doesn't carry an anti-christian theme. One has to pick and choose what is or isn't appropriate. For me, it's mostly sports and news.
The same can be said for most forms of media. There are websites, radio stations, magazines and newspapers that Christians are better off staying away from. I would not agree that all media forms should be banned. Resist the evil, not necessarily the technological advancements.
