Republican Debate

Perry shot himself in the foot calling social security a ponzi scheme. Even if he wins the primary he will lose the general election. Romney came across as presidential. Bachman, cain, huntsman, santorum and paul are deadbeats. The race in my view is between Perry, Romney and Gingrich.

Re: Republican Debate

The Ponzi scheme would be an accurate analogy for the Social Security issue. When SS started out, there were dozens of workers paying taxes into the system for every retiree who was taking benefits out of it. By the time 1950 rolled around, the ratio had slipped to 16 1/2 to 1. Today it is a little less than 3 to 1, and that number is shrinking. The fact that we know this and don't do anything about it makes it a bona fide Ponzi scheme. That is Perry's point.

Re: Republican Debate

Interesting change at InTrade after the debate. Romney has consistently been showing 30% for Presidential Nominee. Perry has been consistently at 37-38%. Tonight they are tied at 37%. That means that more were impressed with Romney than they were with Perry. He didn't move at all.

Re: Republican Debate

Another synopsis of the debate.

People in my office who watched were really impressed with the way Romney came across.

Perry did not bode well with the people I've spoken with so far.

Re: Republican Debate

He seemed imature and defensive. I didn't expect that from him.

Disappointed really. I would still vote for him, his politics are dead on, his "on camera charactor" (or lack there of) is irrelevant

Mark Levin's comments on last night's debate:

Quote:
Brian Williams and John Harris at Reagan Library debate

Nearly every **** question was based on liberal assumptions -- liberal assumptions about government, including health care, the climate, taxes, spending, illegal immigration, job creation, faith, the death penalty, etc. These people really are embarrassing. But it underscores the difficult road we have to travel to restore this nation.

If you missed the debate, it is easier to watch in segments.

I'm not sure that I thought he was acting immature and defensive, but he wasn't as presidential looking as Romney. He has time to improve that. I agree with you that his policies are dead on.

Loved how Perry stood up for the SS issue as being a Ponzi scheme. The Cato Institute gave him credit for that today, agreeing that it is a Ponzi scheme.

I love how Newt stood up to Brian Williams on the media trying to get the Republicans to argue with each other and that everyone on that platform will fight against the media for protecting Obama and they will work to make him a one term president.

Loved how Herman Cain said, "If 10% is enough for God, 9% is enough for the Government."

Let's see how this plays out. By calling SS a ponzi scheme (which it is), it will get the younger crowd wanting a reform of sorts for their future and an explaination that those of a certain age, and or already recieving SS, will not be affected. Not sure how that could be considered shooting oneself in the foot.
