My husband always says that when you "assume" it makes a *donkey* out of you and me. I disagree. I think when you assume, you only make yourself look foolish. If you aren't sure about meaning, ask. If you aren't sure about motive, ask. A lot is lost in print that wouldn't be missed IRL with faces, gestures and tone. It pays to get clarification before you response with all guns blazing.
