It grieves me to think of Him bearing the stripes in vain.

I do NOT preach against going to doctors, but I do encourage our people to trust God and stretch their faith rather than being so quick to run to the medical profession.

I agree 100%.

I have seen people who wear their illnesses as a badge of identity. It is what defines them. Can I say it? Some folks don't want healing. So they rely on drugs to treat the symptoms rather than a God that can cleanse.

This happens not only in the realm of physical infirmity; there are many people who refuse to give up their inner "wounds" because they have taken on an identity as "wounded," and use it as an excuse not to move on and be productive in their life and walk with God.

They enjoy the attention they receive as a result so much that they become the perpetual convalescent.

If they were to let go of that wound, they would lose some of that status, and perhaps would be expected to do something besides bewail their constant pains.

Can't have that...no fun there.

And we can see those that wear their 'no doctor' doctrine as a badge also.

True.

I think that is a shame.

Christ Temple (Bishop Haywood's church) in their early years had a policy of trusting God and not taking medicine. I think the late Jimmy Davis of Lamont lost a daughter years ago trusting God he was taught that in the Apostolic Bible College at Tulsa(which was one of the first UPC Bible Colleges). C. P. & Mary Williams were over it and taught it fervently both died without medical aid. A cancer ate Bro. William's nose and upper lip off.
They saw many great miracles in that era as a result of their standing in faith. Not that all of them were healed. It was reported by Bro Terry that he and Bro Davis had heart problems at the same time. Bro Terry had a bypass, and Bro Davis resisted and stood in faith. Bro Davis died, and Bro Terry lived on.

I remember talking to an older man some time back who God used a lot in the healing ministry during the 50's and 60's. He had cancer, and was dying. He went out into the mountains where he lived, and camped there, praying and fasting. He came down from there healed, and had great faith because of his healing to pray for others.

It seems that there is a sort of determination that is missing from us now adays. We just don't take the horns of the alter, and hold on until there is an answer. We have no importunity to continue until we receive. We give up quickly and say, "it must not be his will".

I wonder how many in the bible would have received their healing from Jesus if they were not sure whether he would heal them or not?

Good thought. Many times we believe an evil report instead of trusting His word.
